Job overview

We require an enthusiastic and dynamic new leader for our committed team of staff working with vulnerable young people across an Outstanding Medical PRU. The successful candidate will lead a highly effective education team and provide vision, leadership and direction for the continuing improvement of the HHTS.

The HHTS comprises of St George’s Hospital classroom, three CAMHS units at Springfield University Hospital- Aquarius Acute Adolescent Psychiatric Unit, Wisteria Adolescent Eating Disorders Unit and Corner House Deaf Unit. The Service also supports pregnant teenagers, children with medical needs, vulnerable teenagers and pupils with school phobia in their homes, schools and local community. Ofsted rated the HHTS as Outstanding in 2010 and again in 2013.

We are committed to working with schools and the health service to maximise access to suitable education for children and young people who have medical needs, mental health issues or teenage pregnancy that results in hospitalisation or recurring absences from school. The service also works closely with the Wandsworth primary and secondary PRUs and the three PRUs are governed by a single Management Board.

Please be sure to have a look at our website at www.hhts.wandsworth.sch.uk to gain an overview of the service.

You will be required to lead the teachers and support staff within the units and will work in partnership with multidisciplinary teams. You must be willing to work flexibly in a challenging yet rewarding environment.

Candidates should have:

  • Recent experience of teaching across a broad ability range and across key stages.
  • successful senior management experience
  • ability to monitor and review through self-evaluation, report writing and a clear system of record keeping
  • ability to manage resources effectively to meet service priorities
  • ability to liaise effectively with schools, health, other agencies and parents
  • evidence of ability to successfully teach pupils with Social Emotional and Mental Health needs
