Job overview

The Governors of Cavendish Community Primary School are looking to appoint a new Headteacher for our thriving and successful school. Our current Headteacher is retiring after 13 years during which our school has been shaped into one which has high expectations and achieves impressive outcomes for pupils. This is combined with a strong sense of community in which all of our 692 children are valued, cared for and encouraged to be, as our motto says, ‘Brilliant Citizens’. Our recent Ofsted inspection confirmed our status as a Good school. We are looking for an inspirational, committed and experienced individual who will build on these strong foundations and continue to take our school forward towards Outstanding.

What is special about Cavendish Community Primary School?

  • We are a vibrant learning environment in which children, staff and parents work together to ensure that our pupils have exciting and fun learning experiences which allow the whole child to thrive.
  • We are located in West Didsbury, one of the most diverse and community minded areas of South Manchester. The school reflects this and embraces it as one of its core strengths. We currently have about a third of children who have English as an additional language and a quarter of our children qualify for Pupil Premium. Cavendish is at the heart of this community and is the hub for local events as well as providing a fantastic array of afterschool activities for pupils and a thriving wrap around care provision.
  • Our staff are outstanding and committed to ensuring that the children experience the curriculum in active and engaging ways. We are open to innovation and adopt and adapt new practices as we strive to continuously improve. We embrace professional development at all levels of the school. There is a real belief in the importance of staff well-being demonstrated by the strong retention of staff throughout the institution.
  • We have a strong Governing Body and a highly engaged parent community who are keen to celebrate and support the achievements of the school.

What will the Successful Candidate bring to our school?

  • A proven track record as a leader in the Primary phase.
  • An ability to communicate a clear vision of the school that consolidates current successes.

About Cavendish Community Primary School

At Cavendish Community Primary School we have an unwaivering committment to ensuring that each child makes the best progress possible, both personally, socially and academically.

We never lose sight of the importance of basic skills in English and Maths, and the “3 Rs” are our top priority. In addition, we strive to provide excellent opportunities for children to shine in many other areas including music, sport, drama, art, languages and ICT. We also have close links with high schools in the state and independent sectors to provide enrichment experiences for gifted and talented children, and to ensure that our children make successful transitions to their chosen high school.

We believe that every child has the right to enjoy a first class education. We want the same for your children as we want for our own children - high standards of achievement, excellent behaviour, a broad curriculum that enables all to shine, and an enjoyable primary school experience that prepares children well for the next stage of their lives.

Our mission statement:

The aim of all who work at and with Cavendish is that we will be an outstanding school because we expect and get the best from our pupils whilst also providing excellent care for their well-being.  Our children have the right to enjoy a deep and rich primary education that equips them with the skills, knowledge and understanding to enable them to make a successful transition to their chosen high school, and we want them to leave with high levels of motivation always to give of their best. They will have experience of contributing positively to their local community, and will have a growing understanding of the national and global communities to which they also belong.  They will not tolerate discrimination, and will have good self care and self discipline skills that enable them to stay safe and behave courteously and sensibly. They will have a strong sense of moral purpose. They will be confident to seek help and advice when necessary. During their time here, they will become ‘brilliant citizens’.
