Job overview

This isn’t just any Headteacher role, it’s a role about people. We need a headteacher who understands our challenging community and who has the heart to make us the best we can be.

We have great potential

We are a large primary school in a challenging area. This is a socially complex community: over 50% of our children have English as an additional language, with families joining us from all over the world, and from every socio-economic background.

Having worked in a similar diverse community, you’ll understand our school and our people. It’s this understanding that will inform our direction and ensure that not only are we a safe place for our children to achieve, but a school with immense potential.

Energy, drive and empathy

You might already be a headteacher looking for a bigger school (we’re a 3-form entry), or an outstanding leader ready for the step up. Either way, your energy, drive and collegiate approach will galvanise the team to maintain our ‘good’ rating and take us to ‘outstanding’.

You’ll need to demonstrate you can teach as we believe if you can’t teach well, you can’t support our team to deliver their best in the classroom. It’s a good team with good teachers who work hard, want to be here and are open to new ideas to take their teaching skills to the next level.

You won’t be driven by ego. You’ll get your satisfaction by knowing that your work - day-in, day-out - will improve the life chances of our children and set the direction of their futures.

About TKAT…

TKAT is one of the largest Multi-Academy Trusts in the South of England with over 40 Primary and Secondary Academies in the TKAT Family.

Our ultimate aim is to ensure we drive educational standards by providing outstanding teaching, leadership and learning for all. Our pupils are at the heart of everything we do and we strive to inspire learners and change lives as a result our exceptional educational provision.
…and why you’ll want to work with us

Join TKAT and you will have:

  • The freedom to shape your school: We believe every academy needs its own individual identity. So unlike other MATs, our Headteachers genuinely have the freedom to shape their school. That’s the only way to truly meet the needs of a community as being there every day means that you will know it better than anyone else .
  • A support network second-to-none: We passionately believe in the power of collaborative working and actively promote school-to-school support. This includes accessing support from our strong Teaching School Alliance who offer a range of high quality professional development opportunities for staff at all levels. In this role, you’ll also have the support of our regional directors, not to mention the strength of the wider TKAT group.
  • Boundless opportunities for career progression: When you deliver and achieve, you’ll be rewarded for your success – and that could be from leading multiple schools, to additional responsibilities that will impact across TKAT, through to Directorships. If you’re ambitious, we’ll help you succeed.
  • A great social culture! We know how to enjoy ourselves. Conferences, summer parties, and our inter-school TKAT Games every year give you the chance to let your hair down with colleagues and know that your hard work is appreciated.

For an informal discussion and tour of the school, please contact Matt Batchelor, Senior Director of Education on 07738 807 349.

Please download the application form and return to hr@tkat.org.

Interviews will be held on Thursday 8th December 2016

We aim high, we broaden horizons, we develop confidence. Welcome to Bewbush”

The Bewbush Academy is an all-through primary school with extensive outdoor space, including large fields, a reading corner, adventure trails and a bug hotel! We currently have 20 classes; most year groups, with three classes. Our school serves an ethnically diverse population and we work closely with our families and the local community. Within school, every child and adult belongs to a house (Ruby, Emerald, Diamond, and Sapphire) and can earn house points for behaviour, attitude, effort and learning. Our Year 6 house and vice captains work hard to motivate their teams and weekly house point results are shared in our celebration assembly.

One aspect of learning we believe to be particularly important is that children experience things first hand, learning through talking and doing. To support this, we provide opportunities for interesting and varied lesson activities, which engage all types of learners.

We value educational visits and try to enable school trips for all of our children. These have ranged from a trip to Arundel Castle, exploring the Smugglers Caves in Hastings and travelling back to the Victorian times at Preston Manor. We also welcome visitors into our school to lead assemblies, perform puppet shows and run workshops. In addition, Bewbush Academy takes part in countless sporting events and hosts several after school clubs as part of our strong belief in enrichment outside of the classroom setting.

We believe that our children should be given every opportunity to thrive and develop their skills across the curriculum. This includes the children being taught by specialist P.E. coaches and a Music teacher as part of our PPA provision. We teach Literacy through Talk for Writing and expose our children to weekly problem solving in Maths.

The Bewbush Academy will support growing leaders as well as giving teachers the skills, knowledge and expertise to embark on the next stage of their career. We have a strong track record of supporting and developing NQTs and are part of the SCLP, who provide a variety of Literacy, Maths and Teaching & Learning training sessions.

We would like to appoint staff who will be team players, committed to our children and who enjoy life! We are seeking people who are creative, prepared to try new things and who believe that education is an all-round, holistic experience. We have high aspirations for all our pupils, encouraging them to fulfil their own dreams and ambitions.

If you are committed to aiming high, broadening horizons and developing children’s confidence, then we would love to hear from you - we would be very happy to show you around so that you can experience our thriving and vibrant school first hand.
