Lead a Growing School

‘Valuing Faith in Children & Education’

Downton C of E Primary School is entering an exciting new phase as we add two new classrooms by September 2017 to keep up with the demand for primary school places in our growing village of Downton.

Our existing Headteacher has decided to move on from January 2018 and so the Governors are looking to appoint a committed, enthusiastic professional, with a passion for teaching and learning. At Downton Primary we aim to encourage all to develop their self-confidence to reach their potential, have a thirst for learning and to be the best they can be.

Our hardworking and dedicated staff team ensures that pupils and parents benefit from great quality teaching and pastoral care, a commitment recognised with the school’s first OFSTED ‘Outstanding’ assessment in March 2013 and the ‘Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools’ (SIAMS) evaluation in May 2015 noting that “The school, through its distinctive Christian character, is outstanding at meeting the needs of all learners.”

Downton is a large and growing village situated between Cranborne Chase Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the New Forest National Park on the Wiltshire / Hampshire border. The school is currently single form entry with 220 pupils on roll but with the new classrooms we plan to increase as we transition to 1.5 form entry over the next few years.

Do you have the drive and creativity to lead our school as we grow in step with the village? Are you someone who can nurture, coach and develop our young leadership team? Can you maintain and strengthen the school’s Christian ethos, and its place at the heart of the community?

If so, we would love to hear from you. In return, we can offer:

  • A successful, popular and flourishing school.
  • A highly motivated, cohesive and talented staff team dedicated to achieving high standards.
  • A committed team of governors to support you as well as providing the necessary challenge
  • Responsive, happy children who are well behaved, eager to learn and are proud of their school.
  • A commitment to personalised professional development.
  • The opportunity to work in a friendly village location within a stunning location.

An informal visit to the school is strongly encouraged and warmly welcomed.

To arrange a visit please contact Andrea Ware on 01725 510556 or email admin@downton-pri.wilts.sch.uk

Please note that CVs will not be accepted. The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff to share this commitment. Applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and criminal record check.

Closing Date: Thursday 1st June 2017 at 12 noon
