Highfield Infants' School, Shortlands, opened in 1972, and is situated in an attractive part of Bromley, Kent, a short distance from the Town Centre.

As a Foundation school, the employer is the Governing Body which works closely with Bromley LA to ensure that all staff receive the same opportunities as those employed directly by the Authority. The Governing Body is committed to continuous professional development of all staff in its drive towards excellence.

Highfield Infants’ School is 3-form entry in two intakes (September and January). Most pupils progress to Highfield Junior School which is located close by on contiguous premises. At Highfield Infants’ School we aim to create a happy, caring, secure and challenging learning environment by providing a centre of excellence for the education of our children…

Our objectives are:

* To give all children the opportunity to achieve their full potential in literacy and numeracy
* To equip our children with the technological skills necessary for the modern world
* To develop aesthetic, creative, physical and investigative skills in the context of a broad, diverse and balanced curriculum
* To promote opportunities to develop children’s spiritual, cultural, moral and social awareness
* To facilitate effective and strong links between school, home and the wider community – recognising the role of parents as the first educators of their children and valuing the contribution they make to the life of the school
* To maintain and develop close links with local nurseries and preschools in addition to Highfield Junior School
* To foster self-discipline and a sense of responsibility, valuing politeness, honesty, tolerance, a caring for others and a positive attitude towards learning
* To enable children to appreciate the multi-cultural society in which we live and develop respect for other races, religions and ways of life
* To offer equality of opportunity to all our children, including the gifted and talented, those with special educational needs and those who find aspects of learning difficult
* To foster an enthusiasm for lifelong learning

Indoors we have well-equipped furnished classrooms, a networked information and communications technology (ICT) suite, interactive whiteboards, a children's reference library and a multi-purpose hall. Opened only in December is a new purpose-built 4-classroom and activity area of which we are very proud, which replaced some “mobile” classrooms somewhat past their sell-by date.

The children enjoy a range of outdoor facilities too, including an attractive and well-maintained pond and wildlife area, a garden specially designed for its appeal to the spectrum of senses and plenty of mature trees. In the playgrounds there are wooden toy features and painted markings as well as small apparatus that children enjoy using.
Additionally, one of the ways in which we link with the Junior School, whose grounds adjoin our own, is through usage of their playing fields for various activities throughout the year.

Bromley is the largest London borough. Located in the south east of the capital, it includes Beckenham, Orpington, West Wickham, Crystal Palace, Cray Valley, Penge, Anerley and Biggin Hill.

Bromley Local Authority is committed to ensuring that its schools continue to offer high-quality education to all their children and young people so that they can have the best possible start in life. Learning and Achievement in Schools work in partnership with the schools to raise standards and create positive and productive learning for all children and young people in schools
