Main Duties

• To be the schools main first aider on site providing first aid to students and staff following suitable training.

• To maintain the school’s risk assessment register liaising with the staff member responsible for completion of the departmental or task based risk assessment.

• To risk assess any security risks at the academy.

• To line manager and allocate work to all site based staff including cleaning and caretaking staff.

• Manage maintenance and security systems on academy sites.

• Supervise, train and appraise academy site staff.

• Arrange regular security checks to be undertaken carrying out regular site walks.

• Identify defects on regular site walks and allocate work appropriately including heating and lighting.

• Manage fire safety equipment provision and scheduling of fire drills liaising with the office manager and head of school.

• Manage the provision of alarm system and CCTV where appropriate.

• Oversee the activities of external contractors on site. This includes booking these and ensuring contractors are made aware of the DBS and ID requirements for working on site and ensuring these are available to the office manager on commencement of work.

• To keep reception fully informed of planned works.

• Make arrangements for effective response to emergency call out and provide emergency access.

• Ensure school staff’s health and safety training remains up to date and issue training to new staff.

• To liaise with the Trust Estates Director regarding the academy’s planned maintenance programme.

• Order, maintain and correctly store materials and equipment implementing appropriate control systems.

• To liaise with the office manager regarding academy lettings.

• Manage routine maintenance, repair schedules and specialist repairs. 

• Ensure academy waste collection is arranged.

• Undertake specialist cleaning tasks.

• Coordinate deliveries to site with reception and ensure correct storage of items.

• Ensure the academy has sufficient levels of trained first aiders at all time arranging new and refresher courses where necessary.

• Carry out driving license checks for minibus drivers.

• Carry out regular inspections of the minibus liaising with finance for any repairs and maintenance required.

• Ensure academy first aid supplies are stocked and up to date liaising with the office manage to order replenishments.

• Monitor and investigate academy accidents/incidents.
