Nelson and Colne College are an Ofsted Outstanding College with an excellent local reputation. Due to exceptional growth, we are now looking to recruit a student focused Health and Social Care Lecturer, with a health background, to join our motivated and high achieving team.

Teaching across a range of levels, ideally including Higher Education and academic Level 3 courses related to the health sector; the successful candidate will be invested in the holistic learning experience and will provide students with exceptional teaching and learning, pastoral support, work experience and links with both employers and Higher Education institutions.

Nelson and Colne College are a Beacon status college, with recent DfE School and College Performance Tables confirming the college to be the best provider of A Level and vocational qualifications in the local area in terms of the progress our students make, as well as being the 6th highest performing in the whole country for A Level value added scores. The main duties include:

  • Teaching  within the Health and Social Care department on a range of programmes in Health, delivering effective learning for students
  • Developing and sharing resources for the course/subject
  • Delivering enhancement and enrichment activities
  • Completing required assessment duties in relation to student assignments
  • Maintaining records as appropriate
  • Engaging in curriculum development and planning activities

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A degree in a nursing/health related subject area
  • A recognised teaching qualification, or the willingness to achieve tis within three years of appointment
  • Successful teaching experience in a nursing/health subject area
  • Knowledge of, and proven ability to deliver the curriculum successfully
  • A student centred approach to teaching and learning
  • Recent industrial experience in the nursing/health sector
  • Experience of delivering on Access programmes (desirable)

About Nelson and Colne College

Nelson and Colne College, located in the town of Nelson, Lancashire, offers further education to 1,600 full-time students and 3,500 part-time adults. The college was founded during the reorganisation of education in Pendle in the early 1970s and created by the merger of several local sixth forms. 

Recent investments have included a £2m engineering facility, an all-weather sports pitch and gym, fully equipped science laboratories, and student study and social spaces. In January 2017, Nelson and Colne College launched a university centre to offer a range of higher education programmes in East Lancashire and beyond.
