Aldar Education is currently seeking a High Level Teacher Assistant (Autism Resource Base) to support our growing family of owned and operated schools in the UAE. Due to planned current and future expansion we are looking to add to our Team supporting our network of schools.

Job Purpose:

Provide intervention and targeted support to Autistic students in the schools ARB classroom under the direction of the class’s specialist teacher and school HoI.

Responsibilities:

Main Duties:

  • Provide support for an identified groups of 2-3 students, within a group context or individually, both inside and outside of the classroom to enable them to fully participate in a range of activities during the school day.
  • Be proactive in matters relating to health and safety.
  • Assist in the implementation of individual education programmes for a group of identified students pupils, link to the student’s IEP goals and contribute to the monitoring of their progress and attainment.
  • Support the students in relation to their additional support needs e.g., academic, physical, emotional, and behavioural difficulties and help develop their social and communication skills.
  • Assist the specialist teacher with maintaining pupil records and updating assessment tracking frameworks on a regular basis.
  • Prepare necessary resources to assist the identified student to access or differentiate the curriculum in order to support learning.
  • Promote independence, by teaching clear and meaningful strategies to the student in line with their strengths and difficulties.
  • Support the aims of the school, comply with the requirements of health and safety, code of conduct and other relevant legislation and school policies.
  • Set a good example in terms of dress, punctuality, and attendance.
  • Attend training sessions and professionals’ meetings as required.
  • Work with other professionals e.g., speech therapists, occupational therapists etc, as needed.
  • Build a close working relationship with home room and subject teachers and communicate regularly and openly.
  • Understand other duties from time to time as the principal / Head of Inclusion require

Specific Duties:

  • Adhere to guidelines of confidentiality – respecting that the Head of Inclusion, specialist teacher and home room teacher are responsible for formal communications with parents.
  • Giving individual instruction as prescribed by the specialist teacher and /or therapist, providing group instruction where appropriate
  • Demonstrating various instructional activities linked to best practise Autism provision.
  • Monitoring work assigned by the teacher – checking and correcting individual students work in line with school policy, while in progress.
  • Keeping individual pupil and peers on task
  • Praising and reinforcing the achievements of pupils/reporting pupil progress to the ARB teacher
  • Prepare materials for the individual as needed, to scaffold their learning.
  • Participating in development of behaviour policy / promoting pupils’ self-esteem and discipline misbehaviour in line with whole school policy and ARB specific policy.
  • Attend and subsequently deliver intervention for SaLT / OT / ABA therapy to help generalise and consolidate target skills, maximising the impact of therapy.
  • Attend ECA/trips and visits.
  • Experienced IA may be asked to mentor new IA – new IA may be asked to participate mentoring
  • Perform all other duties as requested by direct and dotted line reporting managers/ supervisors in a timely manner

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum qualification of a two-year diploma degree in Special Education/Education is required
  • Autism qualification (ABA, TEACCH, SCERTS)

Minimum Experience:

  • At least two-years’ experience working with autistic students

  • Fluent English communication skills, written and oral in order to deliver clear, proactive and effective two-way communication.
  • Good literacy skills and an excellent command of English and good numeracy skills
  • Flexibility, personal initiative, and skills in prioritisation of tasks, enthusiastic, motivated, resilient and patient
  • Ability to work flexibly as a member of a team
  • IT skills would be desirable
  • Shows positivity when faced with change, embracing it fully
  • Collaboration and teamwork
  • Result driven.
  • Ability to create a culture of continuous learning and knowledge sharing
  • Ability to analyse information in a systematic manner to make informed decisions.
  • Acts in a socially responsible manner
  • Knowledge of child protection and safeguarding
  • A clean enhanced Disclosure and Barring Services check or police check.
