Ark Chamberlain Primary Academy is a five-form entry junior school in Small Heath, Birmingham. The school joined the Ark network in September 2015, after its predecessor school was placed in special measures by Ofsted. It is now under a strong and effective leadership team and part of the Birmingham hub made up of three primary schools and three secondary schools.

We believe in the potential of every child at Ark Chamberlain Primary Academy. Our vision is to ensure that all children are supported and nurtured in order to develop their aspirations to be positive contributors to a global society and leaders of tomorrow. To do this we will start the journey towards a university degree and encourage children to explore a wide range of future careers. We will ensure that the pursuit of excellence is promoted and offer a safe and enjoyable learning environment.

Under the school’s dynamic new Principal, Wendy Baxter, Ark Chamberlain has instituted a staff well-being policy, with an emphasis in each staff briefing on rest and relaxation. Staff are expected and encouraged to get rest and ‘me time’ during half term and to not answer emails outside of work hours. The school also has communal singing and a staff breakfast on Friday. We know that our pupils will only achieve the best possible outcomes if our teachers receive the best professional development opportunities. This is why we have made the commitment to ensure that there are regular opportunities for all teachers to receive bespoke training. In fact, we provide twice as many training day as standard.

There is a focus on exemplary behaviour in the school, giving teachers more time to teach. The behaviour policy is clear, simple and on whiteboards in a visual format, ensuring that every pupil knows what’s expected of them – and that teachers can concentrate on teaching, not classroom management.

Curriculum

At Ark Chamberlain, we want our children to develop a love of learning and experience a rounded education. We ensure every year group covers a broad and balanced curriculum which engages the children. Every day, maths, writing and reading will be taught, as these are core subjects and very important to children’s development. In addition to this, we teach topic-which covers geography and history, PSHCE- which involves children’s personal, social and health education, RE, computing and Spanish.

Ofsted

In December 2015 the academy had its first Ofsted Monitoring Inspection which determined that “the academy is taking effective action towards the removal of special measures”.  This is the best result that a school can achieve following a monitoring inspection.
