The Aurora Group is an innovative provider of education and care for children, young people and adults with special educational needs and disabilities. 

Opening in September 2022 Aurora Fairway is a bespoke new school for 11-16 year olds with Special Educational Needs, with a proposed capacity of 54 pupils, having taken the best elements of a mainstream school and the best elements of a special school to create an environment where young people can achieve their own goals and thrive - be that with GCSEs or a vocational route.

The Role: 

We are looking for a HLTA to join our team. You will be supporting the Class Teacher with all elements of the day to day running of the class and teaching whole classes, groups and individual lessons in consultation with the Class Teacher on a regular basis across a range of classes.

Key Duties: 

  • Assist the Class Teachers with carrying out the professional duties of a teacher as outline in the Professional Standards for Teachers. 
  • To lead in the absence of any Class Teachers across the school. 
  • Know and understand the Class Teacher’s curriculum planning and to plan, prepare and deliver assigned programmes of teaching and learning activities to individual, small groups and/or classes modifying and adapting activities as necessary within agreed systems of supervision. 
  • To provide high quality, challenging and differentiated educational activities and experiences through teaching a broad and balanced curriculum aiming at students achieving their full potential in all areas of learning. 
  • Select and adapt appropriate resources/methods to facilitate agreed learning activities 
  • Reinforce learning concepts presented by teachers. 
  • Take an active role in key areas of responsibility across the school including displays and organising resources. 
  • Develop and implement individual plans for students (such as the educational elements in an EHCP), including attendance at, and contribution to, reviews if requested. 
  • Support the role of parents/carers in students’ learning and contribute to meetings with parents/carers to provide constructive feedback on student progress/achievement

Skills and Qualifications

Qualifications:  

  • The Higher Level Teaching Assistant Diploma or equivalent Level 4 qualification, or demonstrate equivalent skill level. 
  • GCSE pass above C (or 4 in the new GCSE system) in English and Maths

Knowledge: 

  • Relevant knowledge and experience of pupils with SEN, SLD, ADHD and ASD 
  • Understanding of the Safeguarding principles and Child Protection procedures 
  • Experience of managing a range of approaches to behaviour, including managing behaviours that challenge. 
  • Experience working within education is advantageous 
  • Experience of working within a multi-cultural, inclusive setting
