About Work Skills Learning

Based in Manor House N4, Work Skills Learning is an independent SEN provision for young people aged between 16 - 25 with special needs.  We are a small, dedicated community with high expectations for each of our young people.  Our learners are offered a personalised learning journey and we actively set out to ensure that every young person thrives in all aspects of the curriculum.  Our learners are fully informed and active in their learning journey and have every capacity to achieve their aspirations successfully.

Preparing our young people for a successful and enriched future alongside ensuring our learners are able to contribute to their community and society, irrespective of their starting point, is key to our vision. Role Requirements

The HLTA will be responsible for supporting teachers in a variety of subjects,  to enable all students to make the best possible progress. The successful candidate must:    

  • Demonstrate excellent knowledge and communicate this in an enthusiastic and imaginative way.    
  • Level 3 Diploma +
  • Experience establishing successful learning relationships with students at the relevant age, treating them consistently with respect and consideration
  • Experience of the role of a HLTA particularly working with young people one to one and in small groups but also including; classroom organisation and management, supporting the planning and delivery of the curriculum, implementing behaviour and learning strategies 
  • Good working knowledge of the national curriculum
  • Good numeracy and literacy skills
  • Good administrative and computer skills 
  • Able to deal with minor incidents, first aid, and pupil’s personal health and hygiene
  • A robust awareness of keeping children safe, noticing safeguarding and welfare concerns, and you understand how and when to take appropriate action. 
  • Belief that every student should have access to an excellent education
  • Professional outlook, detailed orientated and able to multi-task and meet deadlines
  • A team player that can work collaboratively as well as using own initiative
  • Helpful, positive, patient and caring nature
  • Calm and professional under pressure
  • Understanding of the importance of confidentiality and discretion
  • Flexible attitude towards work and demonstrates sound judgement
  • Right to work in the UK
  • Commitment to equality of opportunity and the safeguarding and welfare of all students
  • Willingness to undertake additional training
