Sunfield Specialist School and Children’s Home is located in the beautiful Clent Hills, West Midlands and is part of the Ruskin Mill Trust providing innovative and experiential education, and supports young people (6 – 19 years) with complex learning needs, including autism and PDA.

For over 30 years, Ruskin Mill Trust has provided Specialist Independent Education to children and adults with complex needs including learning difficulties, autistic spectrum conditions and disabilities. Our provisions offer both day and residential placements and applications. Inspired by Aonghus Gordon using the insights of Rudolf Steiner, John Ruskin and William Morris, Ruskin Mill Trust works with hand, head, heart and place to provide students with the tools to transform material and in doing so transform themselves.

Higher Level Teaching Assistant

Actual Salary range from 1st September: £21,686 - £24,149 (40 hours, 40 weeks)

Grade 7 without Teaching Qualification

Grade 8 with a L4 Teaching Qualification

This is a pro rata amount of the full time equivalent

This is an exciting opportunity offered by Sunfield School and Children’s Home, part of Ruskin Mill Trust for experienced, self-motivated Higher Level Teaching Assistants. We are looking to appoint Higher Level Teaching Assistants to complement the professional work of the teachers by taking responsibility for agreed learning activities under an agreed system of supervision.

Prospective candidates should be able to demonstrate:

  • A patient, caring, compassionate and child-centred approach
  • Experience of working with special educational needs in an educational setting
  • Experience working with autism and attached related needs
  • Excellent observation skills and the ability to problem solve and think creatively to enable our children and young people to reimagine their potential
  • Emotional intelligence and resilience with the ability to react calmly in challenging situations
  • Line management experience of Teaching Assistants
  • Experience of working with class teachers on individual learning plans
  • Higher Level Ability to prepare, plan and deliver learning activities to individual/groups or short term for whole classes, monitor and report on pupil achievements and progress.

Higher Level Teaching Assistants work closely with pupils, to support and facilitate their learning, progress and wellbeing in a range of learning environments. At Sunfield School pupils will learn through a dynamic curriculum which includes practical skills; textiles, green woodwork and cooking with a significant period of time involved in growing biodynamic produce in the school gardens and looking after the farm animals.
