Job overview

The Role

We are seeking an enthusiastic History and Politics teacher to join our successful Humanities department. With a specialism in History and the ability to teach this at all Key Stages, the successful candidate will also have the ability to teach A Level Politics (Edexcel) as well as General Humanities to KS3. The ability to teach Sociology at KS5 would be an advantage but is not essential.

You will join a leading department in a heavily over-subscribed academy. The Humanities department is staffed with a mixture of experienced teachers and newly qualified staff all with a commitment to continuous school improvement. We have a designated section of the school which allows us to work closely together and we also occupy a large area within the brand-new Sixth Form Centre. With GCSE and A Level courses in Humanities heavily subscribed, this is a brilliant time to join the team and become part of the department as we continue to move forward.

We have consistently good GCSE and A Level results in our AQA History courses. You will be keen to promote the Humanities department and improve upon the opportunities available to our students.

About Us

Our Ofsted Report February 2020 says “The school has a warm and welcoming atmosphere” and “Pupils at The Highcrest Academy happily live up to the school’s motto of ‘aspire and achieve' ...”.

Our aim is to establish a culture of excellence throughout every element of our academy and move us from Good to Outstanding.

Just 30 minutes by train from Central London, The Highcrest Academy is the first All Ability Academy in the county of Buckinghamshire. It is culturally diverse and a vibrant school making it a fantastic place to teach. We have some students who will need all your support and yet have also featured in the national Ofsted report for providing challenge to the most able.

There are approximately 1,000 students on roll, which includes the Sixth Form. A new building programme, completed last year, comprises a brand-new Sixth Form Centre, sports facilities including a gym, and a new restaurant and coffee shop for both students and staff. We also have a thriving House system that brings our whole school community together.

In Return

Highcrest offers both an excellent induction and support programme for NQTs and an innovative and extensive CPD package. There is also the possibility of shared living accommodation.

“Staff feel very well supported by senior leaders. According to staff, they feel valued because senior leaders are approachable ...”  Ofsted Report February 2020.

A thriving school in the heart of the community, we also offer free on-site parking, staff recognition schemes and free gym to counter the “Friday Biscuits” and on-site coffee shop!

The Highcrest Academy is a vibrant, happy school in which every student is given the opportunity to develop their talents and to flourish as individuals. We are relentless in our pursuit of building a cohesive culture and curriculum that matches the varied needs of our students.

Our motto, ‘Aspire and Achieve’ is central to our philosophy. We are committed to making sure that every student makes outstanding progress and succeeds both academically and in terms of their spiritual, moral, social and cultural development. Indeed, we value a strong work ethic and aim to develop, sometimes hidden or unsuspected talent, into fruition.

At Highcrest, we are committed to setting high expectations for the conduct of our pupils and believe it is crucial for there to be an established culture in which all are able to excel. We want all the children who come to the academy to enjoy their learning and to become thoughtful, articulate, confident and responsible members of society.

Our personalised curriculum is enhanced by numerous extra-curricular opportunities, community and business projects, national and international competitions and a thriving House System. This encourages staff and students of all ages to work together.

The Highcrest Academy is the only all-ability academy in Buckinghamshire and is a culturally diverse, over-subscribed school, making it a fantastic place to teach. There are approximately 1000 students on roll, including Sixth Form. We know from pupil surveys that students are proud of our school and, when parents have been surveyed, the level of parent satisfaction has also been exceptionally high.

We are very aware that The Highcrest Academy is part of a community and we work hard to instil a sense of local and global responsibility. This means that students take part in many activities which enhance the local community, and have a real understanding of their role in improving the work community.

Our mission is to create a positive, secure and happy learning environment where all students experience success, friendship, respect and self-worth; where students value and celebrate the diverse talents and cultural heritage of all, and achieve their full potential in becoming responsible citizens, respecting the rights of other and contributing to our society.
