About the role 
We are seeking a high calibre, outstanding History/Science Teacher to inspire and engage our students.
You will be expected to teach History and Business to a high standard across Years 7 – 12. 
As a teacher in our College, you will be contributing to the culture and high expectations of a growing learning community.
You should be experienced, forward focused, passionate about nurturing the potential of each student and willing to develop a rigorous academic program.

As a dynamic and innovative member of our school community, you will:
  • Create a nurturing and ordered learning environment which is learner-centred, safe, supportive, co-operative and aligned with relevant curriculum, policies and practices
  • Collaborate with your peers to develop and implement quality curriculum programs and appropriate pedagogy
  • Assess, provide feedback and report on student learning
  • Work with the school leadership team and colleagues to contribute to the professional life of the school
  • Proactively engage with professional learning to enhance student learning outcomes
  • Ensure that the teachings and values of the Catholic Church form a foundation for learning and teaching.

About you 
To be successful in this role you will bring relevant qualifications and contemporary teaching experience in History and Science as well as:

  • Strong literacy, numeracy and digital literacy practices plus a clear understanding of the Australian Curriculum
  • Commitment to child safety
  • Exemplary communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proven organisational skills
  • Commitment to engage with colleagues, students, and parents/carers to achieve the best outcomes
  • Demonstrated competence against the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers across professional knowledge, practice and engagement.

At BCE our teachers are required to:
  • Hold a current Queensland College of Teachers registration; and
  • Be eligible to work in Australia for the duration of the appointment.

About our school: Sophia College is a Catholic secondary school located in the Lockyer Valley, approximately 80kms west of Brisbane. The College opened in January 2021 and continues to grow. It has been designed with a focus on “integral ecology”, with the development over time of an eco-science precinct. Its Catholic identity is enriched through a Franciscan spirituality.

Entering our third year of operation in 2023, we will introduce Year 9 to the existing Year 7 and 8 streams. We're growing our teaching team and are looking for dynamic teachers with drive. You will have access to a supportive leadership team operating with a big school approach and small school feel, state of the art facilities (everything is new!) and the opportunity to exercise independence with the curriculum. We value and explicitly teach the importance of connectivity to nature and local ecology.

Do I have to be Catholic?
All BCE teachers must have a commitment to and understanding of the ethos and traditions of Catholic Education.
If this role does not require you to teach Religious Education, you do not need to be Catholic.
