Job overview

We are Mentor Education, a top London tuition agency that specialises in providing children with individualised teaching from experienced educators, inspiring them to unlock their potential. We take tutoring seriously and are dedicated to delivering a professional and personalised experience for all our tutors, parents, and students. We have had many accolades, including being featured as London’s top tuition agency by School Report and we also come highly commended in the Good Schools Guide.

Our business is growing, and we are now looking to onboard a cohort of new History GCSE and A Level tutors. We are looking for experienced educators to work for us on a freelance basis, providing face-to-face and online tuition to children hoping to get the best grades they can in History. Generally the parents we work with have their children in full time education, often at private schools, and they are looking for additional support in the evenings and at weekends. We are fully committed to Safer Recruitment and Safeguarding in everything we do.

Work can be online or in person depending on the clients wishes. For in person work most of our work tends to be in London from parents in areas such and West London, Clapham, Wimbledon, Dulwich, Blackheath and Hampstead and based out of their homes.

Our typical History tutors have a History degree from Oxbridge or a top Russell group university. They have qualified teacher status. They have some sort of further History teaching sign of professional success - perhaps they have been head of department, or have a masters degree, or are an examiner, or have published a book. They have a passion for History but also a deep understanding of the technical skills needs to help a student jump up 1-2 grade boundaries.

As well as working with private families we are also committed to our communities and our outreach programmes include tuition for Grenfell survivors and volunteering at local schools to help disadvantaged students recover from Covid learning loss. We set up the Afghan College for Girls which, as a charity, educates hundreds of Afghan girls under the noses of the Taliban.

Requirements:

  • At least strong 2 years’ experience as a teacher or tutor.
  • Track record of students and success rates in improving children’s GCSE and A level History grades.
  • Based in London and be able to travel
  • An undergraduate degree and strong academic background.
  • At least 2 hours’ availability a week (In Person).
  • Experience preparing children for History GCSE and History A level.
  • Delivery of excellent lesson plans and reports.
  • The ability to commit to a family for at least one year or exam

We can offer:

  • Attractive pay - typically between £40 and £60 an hour dependent on experience
  • Access to a steady stream of tuition opportunities
  • Access to training courses and development
  • Friendly and supportive back-office team
  • Social opportunities to meet other tutors
