Job overview

History Graduate Assistant

September 2021

We have an enticing opportunity for a Graduate Assistant to join the History department for the academic year 2021-2022. The position is designed to give a recent graduate in History (or a related single or joint-honours subject) the opportunity to gain experience of teaching History to 13-18 year olds.

The Graduate Assistant will teach around a half timetable – about 12 forty minute periods per week. We will provide the necessary training and advice including opportunities to observe other teachers. Although we have not had a Graduate Assistant in the History department before, the programme has been successful in other departments, with many subsequently moving into full-time appointments at the College. The exact nature of the Graduate Assistant’s commitment will be negotiated on an individual basis.

In addition to salary, the College will provide accommodation, and meals in Common Room during term time, all free of charge.  In short, the person we hope to appoint will be an enthusiast for History, who is considering a career in teaching.  The opportunity we are offering is to 'try before you buy' with plenty of help and support, and the added bonus of a salary and accommodation.

Applications must be submitted on the official application form which can be downloaded from our website and sent, together with a covering letter explaining your reasons for applying, to The Warden, Radley College, Abingdon, Oxfordshire OX14 2HR or by e-mail to applications@radley.org.uk.  If you have questions or would like to discuss the vacancy please email the Head of Department, Tom Norton tchn.norton@radley.org.uk.

Closing date: 12 noon 27 May 2021

Interview date: 8 or 9 June 2021

Radley College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of its pupils and expects all employees to share this commitment.
