Newcastle School for Boys is the north east region’s only independent school providing education for boys only aged 3 to 18.

Following its formation in 2005 from founding schools Ascham House and Newlands School, Newcastle School for Boys is now one of the top independent schools in the North East. Located in the heart of Gosforth, Newcastle the School now sits as the only 3 to 18, boys-only school in the region.

At all points, the School aims to provide, in a supportive environment, an excellent learning experience for boys aged 3 to 18.  Specifically, aiming to:

  • challenge and support each boy to achieve the highest levels of individual academic progress;
  • develop boys and young men of excellent character.

As one of the newest schools in the independent sector, Newcastle School for Boys incorporates traditional values whilst preparing all boys for the changing expectations and pressures of modern life.

The School is unique, not only in being boy-focused and offering an education throughout a boy’s school life, but also in its size. Comparatively small in both class sizes and as an overall school, each boy who joins Newcastle School for Boys is well known to every member of staff, being treated and educated as an individual.

Many boys leaving the School go on to study at some of the most competitive universities, including Oxbridge and Russell Group institutions.  Just as importantly, each boy’s individual talents and aspirations are recognised and supported with some old boys also going straight onto successful careers or playing top-flight, professional sport.

Outside of the classroom, boys are given the opportunity to bring their learning to life on a number of exciting educational and sporting trips, such as Science trips to Florida and CERN and sports tours to India and South Africa. Our boys are also encouraged to play their part within the community, whether through voluntary and charitable work or valuable work experience in some of the region’s most highly regarded organisations.

Pastoral care at Newcastle School for Boys is second to none. Boys are offered support with matters both within and outside of school to ensure they are prepared to face the many challenges of life. From their very first years until the day they leave the School, boys participate in a character education programme, developing values of integrity, respect, courage, leadership, empathy and community, all with the focus of developing young men of excellent character.

In every aspect, an education at Newcastle School for Boys will equip boys with the tools needed to go on to lead successful and fulfilling lives beyond their school years.
