We are determined to build on our most recent Ofsted judgement and continue our journey to becoming ‘Outstanding’ in the next two years.  Our motto is “always aiming for excellence’.

Lister is embarking on an exciting stage of developing its support services for the school and we are seeking dynamic, professional and high quality individuals to join us in our aim for excellence in all areas.

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people and expects all staff to share this commitment.  This appointment will be conditional on successful pre-employment and enhanced DBS checks.

As part of our continued focus to further develop impact on student progress, we are seeking to appoint a motivated and enthusiastic Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) in English.

You will be a member of the English Faculty. Your main role will be to plan and lead faculty interventions under the direction of the Head of Faculty, including individual, small group and whole class work. You will also be used to cover known absences within the faculty, as well as unplanned absences in the faculty and across the school where needed. Other duties will involve assisting with faculty events and admin as needed, including home learning interventions and faculty detentions.

You will have English and Maths qualifications at GCSE or equivalent and an A Level qualification or equivalent in English, although it is also desirable to have studied this subject beyond A Level, or to have the aspiration to do so.  You will also hold or be ready to work towards an HLTA qualification, and have some experience of working with young people in a school or similar environment. This would suit someone keen to join the teaching profession but wanting to gain some valuable experience within a school faculty first.

You will also need to demonstrate confidence, strong interpersonal skills and flexibility. The post would suit graduates who have an interest in pursuing a future career in teaching, or individuals who have previous experience of working with children.

If you think you have the potential to work as an outstanding HLTA (English)  then an application form can be downloaded directly from our school’s website at: http://www.lister.newham.sch.uk/vacancies/ or by contacting Jackie Young, HR Manager on 020 8471 3311.

Specialist staff support students using a variety of communication modes such as BSL, SSE and Auditory Oral. Deaf students are taught alongside their hearing peers in mainstream classes for the majority of their lessons. The Deaf Support Department is made up of a large team of Communication Support Workers and Qualified Teachers of the Deaf who work with the deaf students in mainstream classes as well as small groups and 1:1. Deaf students may also have access to Deaf Awareness sessions and pre and post teaching.

Newham Community Learning:  Our school is part of Newham Community Learning, which exists in order to provide an excellent education for all young people in our community.  We are the only Trust to offer all-through provision from ages 2 - 16 within a single family of schools in Newham. Across our two primary and four secondary schools, all located in the west of the borough, we educate over 5,400 local children and young people, and employ a team of  close to 700 members of staff, the vast majority of whom live locally.
