We are positively seeking 1 or more experienced practitioner/s, ideally with a background in primary school teaching and/or teaching assistance, healthcare particular nursing, youth work or social work.  Experience and qualification in Primary Education, is of particular value in our setting. This is because, typically, secondary school practitioners lack the experience with and knowledge of the developmental stages at primary level, or the expertise/experience of healthcare and social work services. Many secondary school students require ongoing support to develop key skills academically, socially and emotionally.

Somerset Studio School [formerly Mendip Studio School] is a unique and small specialist school with students' pastoral care, educational needs and personal future aspirations at its very heart. We have a small team and just 140 students on roll, aged 14 to 19 years and we serve the communities of Radstock, Frome, Midsomer Norton and surrounding villages.

Working as part of a close-knit team, you will play an integral role in supporting individual students either in the classroom or in small groups. You will also have the opportunity to work with experienced colleagues to develop teaching resources to ensure that our SEND students can fully access and benefit from the specialist curriculum.

You will have an enthusiastic, caring and rigorous nature, the ability to engage well with young people and a good standard of written and spoken English.

Benefits include access to a local government pension scheme, a sick pay scheme, salary sacrifice schemes including cycle to work and an Employee Assistance Freephone Helpline.

The Somerset Studio School [Formally Mendip Studio School] is a co-educational school based in Bath and North East Somerset for students aged 14-19.

The school is small with a maximum of 300 students. Students work in smaller groups with individual support from a ‘personal coach’ who meets with them one-to-one every fortnight to develop their own personalised learning plan and to tailor their curriculum to their individual needs and aspirations.

As an integral part of their studies, students will participate in work experience. In Year 12 and 13 students will spend either one or two days per week in work.

Values and vision

The Somerset Studio School believes itself to be a place where classroom based learning and the world of work are truly integrated.

Working closely with local employers, the school aims to offer a range of academic and vocational qualifications including GCSEs in English, Maths and Science, as well as paid work placements linked directly to employment opportunities in the local area. The school firmly believes that this approach ensures students’ learning is rooted in the real world and will help them to develop the skills they need to flourish in life.

At the school, it is also believed that personalisation of the school curriculum will be further supported through a small school environment in which every student will be able to access the tailored support that they need.
