Great Oaks College  Horticulture Tutor Required 

Great Oaks College is a new specialist independent college that is co-located within Oaklands Schools new state of the art, purpose built premises located in Gresham Road, Hounslow. We are close to Osterley Tube Station and public transport routes and just 15 minutes walk from Hounslow bus station. The college provides further educational opportunities to post 19 students that have severe, profound and multiple learning difficulties or autism. 

The college is split into 3 pathways; Vocational, Life Skills and Multisensory. Vocational Choice is a two year course designed for young people who have made the decision that they wish to pursue employment on leaving education. They have demonstrated that this is a realistic option for them and are ready to develop the level of independence which will be needed.

Due to our rapid and continued expansion, we are looking to appoint a creative and enthusiastic horticulture tutor to prepare, deliver and assess horticulture related programmes on our vocational pathway. As well as having a good sense of humour, you will have experience of working with students that have severe learning difficulties, be well organised, calm, patient and passionate about teaching students with special educational needs. We believe that all of our students are capable of making outstanding progress and we want to appoint individuals who share our belief and have the desire and motivation to make this happen. We are holding an open day on 24th April  for anyone interested working in special education  to come and visit our new school and specialist independent college - Great Oaks.

Oaklands is an excellent special school serving the London Borough of Hounslow. We provide specialist education to students with severe learning difficulties, profound and multiple difficulties and autism. We have a Primary school (New Oaks), Secondary school (High Oaks) and a specialist independent SEN College provision (Great Oaks). We can cater for students aged from 4 to 25 across the Oaklands group.

We are interested to hear from qualified teachers (QTS/QTLS) who are already working in special education and looking for a change,  NQT's  and those who work mainstream but are considering branching out into special education.  All teachers are invited to come along and see our school and college and find out more about what its like working here.

Oaklands is at an exciting point in its development; we are currently working towards expansion and full school relocation to a purpose built new school in Hounslow for September 2018. Upon completing their apprenticeship, our staff can progress onto LSA or TA roles.  

We offer teacher training sponsorship and are currently sponsoring 4 of our TA’s through teacher training, 3 of whom started their career at Oaklands on our teaching assistant apprenticeship.  

We would like to offer work experience placements to students interested in pursuing a career in special education and are always keen to hear from those wanting to volunteer in our school.
