Overview

We are currently looking for caring and an enthusiastic House Matron to join our ‘Outstanding’ rated boarding team.

 

You will work closely with the Director of Boarding, Head Matron and the Boarding Team in all areas of the School. You will be responsible for safeguarding the welfare and wellbeing of students and will assist the Head of Accommodation and Student Services in the smooth running of the domestic arrangements of the Boarding Houses.

 

As a House Parent, your role will be to provide top quality pastoral care for our students, making them feel part of our college community and supporting them in their journey towards independent living at university and beyond. This will involve upholding student welfare, maintaining discipline and assisting students with their time management.

Your duties and responsibilities will include the following:

·       To prioritise the safeguarding, welfare, health and safety of students above all other duties and be familiar with statutory safeguarding and child protection needs and requirements as well as school policies developing a supportive, caring and effective relationships with the students, leading by example, always aware of the duty of care “in loco parentis”.

  • Offering support and guidance to all boarders, promoting student welfare and enforcing behaviour policies.
  • Supporting students who are ill and injured by providing first aid, medical support, and escorting students to medical appointments.
  • To promote good personal hygiene, tidiness, cleanliness, good housekeeping and healthy eating practices.
  • Ensuring boarding is maintained to the highest standard to allow students to thrive in both their educational studies and personal lives.
  • To report and follow up student absence appropriately.
  • To communicate with parents/guardians where appropriate.

 

Qualifications and Experience

You will be able to build excellent relationships with young people, be supportive and caring, have the ability to remain calm under pressure and a flexible approach to duties. Hold A Levels or equivalent qualifications or experience, be competent in the use of a PC, particularly the use of MS Word and Outlook, and have a working knowledge of record keeping and data protection. You will have excellent verbal and written English, good communication and organisational skills and have a working understanding of child protection. Higher level qualifications and previous experience working with children or in a care setting is desirable.

 

Hours

You will work full time, 37.5 hours per week, 7am – 3pm Monday – Friday, term time plus two weeks (37 weeks per year).

 

Pay & Holiday

£25,000 - £26,250 per annum full time equivalent is offered to the successful candidate depending on qualifications and experience. £20,480 - £21,500 per annum pro rata, this includes a payment for 5.6 weeks holiday. Your holiday will have been deemed to be taken outside of term time.

Checks and Training

• Enhanced DBS checks to ascertain successful candidates suitability to work with children will be carried out. This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, and therefore all convictions, cautions and bindovers, including those regarded as ‘spent’ must be declared.

• Online searches will be carried out on candidates for any unsuitable content by or about candidates.

• Two written & verbal references from previous employers and a personal reference will be sought. Referees will be asked about candidates suitability to work with children and whether they know of any disciplinary offences relating to children or young persons and whether candidates have been the subject of any child protection allegations or concerns and if so the outcome of any enquiry or disciplinary procedure.

• Candidates full employment history will be checked, any significant gaps will require explanation and proof of any relevant qualifications will need to be provided.

• Successful candidates will be required to complete Child Protection Training via e-learning prior to commencing employment.

• Pre-employment health screening will also be carried out.
