Moreton Hall is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic House Parent with strong pastoral experience to join our highly successful, British Council Accredited International Study Centre for boarders aged 13 – 17. 

This is a residential post and the successful candidate will play a full part in the life of a busy boarding school. 

Moreton Hall’s Mitchell House was established in 2010 and is a stand-alone facility which prepares both boys and girls for entry into GCSE and A level courses at prestigious boarding schools throughout the UK. The International Study Centre takes up to 35 students each term, including summer holidays. 

Moreton Hall is situated in an area of considerable beauty with excellent road and rail links both to North and South. It is situated midway between Shrewsbury and Chester.

Pastoral Care is delivered to an excellent standard at Moreton Hall and it is essential that candidates have an enthusiasm for boarding life, as boarding is central to life at Moreton Hall. 

The House Parent will work as part of team in pastoral support and will recognise the importance of the welfare of students. The house parent will have responsibility for the moral and physical welfare, happiness and progress for all students in house and will enable them to benefit from a caring team ensuring welfare, achievement, development and safety across all areas.

A relevant TEFL qualification, such as CELTA or Trinity is desirable, as well as experience with International students.

Located in the town of Oswestry, Shropshire, Moreton Hall is an all-through school with a Sixth Form for pupils between the ages of 3 and 18. The school was founded in 1913 in an Elizabethan manor house. Boys are accepted up to Year 8. 

Values and vision

Moreton Hall aims to provide a high standard of education by following a tailored curriculum. It offers a nurturing environment that allows girls to grow and excel, personally and academically. Pupils are able to take part in a wide range of extra-curricular activities on the school grounds. The principal believes the aim of the school is to “stretch the most able and support the least confident”. Teachers are there to inform and guide students to be lifelong learners.

“The curriculum is supported by an appropriate policy, detailed schemes of work and plans. It provides particular breadth in modern languages. Those with individual needs are identified carefully so that all pupils can learn and make progress. Pupils’ personal development is supported through personal, social, health and citizenship education. This encourages pupils to respect others and listen to their views. Teaching provokes a wide range of activities in class which develop pupils’ understanding.”
