Job overview

Gresham’s School is situated in the Georgian town of Holt and sits within 200 acres of glorious countryside. Set in an area of outstanding natural beauty, and with the Norfolk Broads and the North Norfolk Coast just a few miles away.

Gresham’s offers a rare opportunity where children can join us at our Nursery and Pre-Prep from the age of 2 and continue with their education at our Prep and Senior School to age 18.

We are currently looking to recruit for a Housemistress to join one of our senior school girls’ boarding houses. The successful candidate will be caring, reliable and enthusiastic and will join a dynamic team of experienced staff looking after girls aged between 13 and 18, who are a mix of both day pupils and boarders.

The House is the most important unit at Gresham’s, and it follows that the Housemaster and Housemistress (HSM) body is critical to the success of the School. We are lucky to have an outstanding team, whose dedication to the welfare and happiness of our pupils is exemplary. As Housemistress, you will be in loco parentis and have overall responsibility for the girls in your care. You will be the chief source of support and guidance in their academic and personal development.

The Housemistress will also teach an academic subject; therefore, a proven track record of outstanding teaching at senior school level is essential. Any subject relevant to our curriculum will be considered.

At Gresham’s we recognise that every child has different strengths and talents and we pride ourselves on recruiting staff who can recognise, nurture and help pupils reach their true potential.

About Gresham's School

Gresham’s is a co-educational boarding and day school for children aged 2-18. It is situated in the Georgian town of Holt in beautiful countryside, just three miles from the breathtaking North Norfolk coast.

The school was founded in 1555 by Sir John Gresham who forged close ties with The Worshipful Company of Fishmongers. On his death, he left the school in their care and strong links with them and the City of London remain to this day.

The school enjoys a generous campus with excellent facilities including a state-of-the-art music building (Britten) with its own recording studio, indoor and outdoor performance spaces including a theatre (Auden), multi-surface sports pitches, tennis courts, swimming pool, sports hall and shooting range. The Dyson Building opened at Gresham’s in September 2021. Sir James Dyson, a former pupil at the school, enabled the innovative new centre for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) education.

The school has an impressive list of Old Greshamians including the composer Benjamin Britten, the poet WH Auden, Oscar winning actress Olivia Colman and international rugby players Tom and Ben Youngs, to name but a few.
