Taunton School is over 170 years old and is an Independent School educating approximately 1200 boys and girls aged 0-18 (around 400 boarders) on one impressive site. We aim to challenge, inspire and nurture young people to succeed in a global community.

Taunton School International (TSI) was set up by Taunton School in 1996 to provide a first step for international students wishing to complete their education in a British school. In 2012, Taunton School International expanded its provision by opening a Middle School (TSIMS, known internally as The Grange) for up to 60 international students aged 8 to 14.  TSIMS is located 3 miles off campus and is largely self-contained, although students use Taunton School facilities for some lessons and for Games and are expected to join Taunton School or Taunton School Preparatory after a maximum time of a year. TSIMS also operates an academic Junior Summer School.

TSIMS are seeking to appoint an outstanding individual to fill the role of Housemistress who will be responsible for the welfare of up to 25 international girls aged 8-14 (with the majority of girls in the 11 – 14 age range).  The role will include responsibility for the pastoral care of the whole student body when on duty but will take particular interest in the girls’ welfare. The role will also have a significant teaching element (approx. 0.75) and you will be expected to teach two subjects from the following: EAL, Geography or ICT to small class sizes of highly motivated students. The ability to differentiate learning is essential to this role.

Our School ethos is of a shared responsibility and positive contribution from all to the life and work of this busy six-day-a-week boarding and day community. This is what makes Taunton School such a thriving, energetic and well-rounded Independent School. We offer a competitive package and an outstanding educational environment in which to work.

The role would ideally suit someone with experience of working in a boarding school.  We would welcome applications from current Housemistresses or someone looking to step up into a Housemistress role having had some previous boarding experience, perhaps as a House Tutor or Assistant House Parent.

Taunton School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The offer of employment will be subject to a number of pre-employment checks including ID and Right to Work in the UK, satisfactory references and a successful enhanced DBS check.
