About the role

Columba Catholic College, Charters Towers is seeking an experienced and dedicated HPE and Sport Curriculum Leader. This role is a Full Time, Permanent position commencing in Term 1, 2022. The successful candidate will be required to teach Junior and Senior HPE and have an ability to teach Cert 3 in Sport and Recreation.

The HPE and Sport Curriculum Leader supports the mission of Columba Catholic College, Charters Towers through leadership of the learning and teaching program. The Curriculum Leader will ensure that appropriate pedagogies are developed and implemented at all levels and will ensure quality of student learning and the effectiveness of teacher practice through appropriate supervision. The Curriculum Leader will utilise thorough analysis of current data to inform decisions and develop appropriate partnerships within and outside of the college, along with prudently administering available resources.

The HPE and Sport Curriculum Leader demonstrates leadership in three dimensions: leadership of teaching and learning, human leadership and strategic leadership. The Curriculum Leader also demonstrates an understanding of, commitment to and support for the values and ethos of Catholic education.

The position of HPE and Sport Curriculum Leader is responsible for:

  • Leading the overall curriculum development, implementation and evaluation under the overall direction of the Senior Leadership Team
  • The application of contemporary learning and teaching research and data analysis to classroom practice through whole college professional development
  • Providing professional development and monitoring improvement of teacher professional practice in areas of identified need in conjunction with the Senior Leadership Team
  • Induction and mentoring of new teachers within an area of curriculum
  • Pastoral care of staff engaged in an area of curriculum
  • Contributing to the leadership of the college through active participation in staff and middle leadership meetings
  • Regularly communicating with the Senior Leadership Team regarding issues of interest or concern
  • Other appropriate duties as required by the Principal and Senior Leadership Team

The HPE and Sport Curriculum Leader will achieve this by:

  • Collaborating with other Curriculum Leaders, teaching staff and appropriate Senior Leadership positions to review curriculum frameworks and plan future directions
  • Managing the performance of teaching staff through ongoing professional discourse, facilitation of reflective teaching practice, and formal and informal goal setting and appraisal
  • Supervising the quality of student learning throughout the college through analysis of student performance data (both internal and external) and addressing whole college areas of concern through appropriate interventions
  • Keeping abreast of developments within the curriculum area through ongoing professional reading and research, and providing for the professional learning of staff with these developments
  • Providing for the supervision and induction of beginning teachers and their ongoing mentoring in collaboration with the Senior Leadership Team and other curriculum leaders

  • Demonstrated experience and success as a classroom teacher and ability to manage a curriculum area

Knowledge

  • Understanding the charism and Catholic Identity of the college and the implications on the delivery of education in the college
  • Established knowledge of, and experience in, curriculum initiatives including but not limited to:
    • Implementation of the Australian Curriculum
    • QCAA senior secondary programs and documentation
    • Integrating ICT into effective learning and teaching
    • Staff professional development
  • A broad vision of holistic curriculum that extends beyond subject boundaries
  • Demonstrated ability to analyse whole school educational data to determine areas of success and areas for improvement and to develop mitigation plans
