Together the Group forms a Sixth Form, Skills and Technology Centre, University Centre, employer training and adult learning provider delivering exceptional teaching and learning to all ages and at all levels. 


The Exciting Role 

The College Group is looking for a full-time, permanent HR Assistant to join our dedicated HR team in delivering our People Strategy and providing a professional HR Service. The role will involve providing first line advice to staff on a range of HR processes and procedures, as well as supporting recruitment and selection activity. This would include the production of offer letters and contracts for successful applicants and supporting the running of assessment days.


The ideal candidate will have experience of working in a varied administrative role, creating an ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritise workloads. Possession of, or willingness to work towards, a CIPD Level 3 qualification would be an advantage, but is not essential. 


This role will be based at our Accrington and Rossendale College site, however, travel across sites may be required.

What You Will Be Doing

• Coordinating pre-employment checks including issuing medical questionnaires, requesting references, facilitating DBS checks, collating evidence of eligibility to work and qualifications and ensuring all information is recorded on the College’s Single Central Record

• Writing to staff to advise of contractual changes, including changes to hours and pay

• Assisting with the monitoring of the College’s probation procedure, ensuring probation reviews are completed in a timely manner

• Supporting the smooth running of the College’s annual leave system, including dealing with queries from staff and managers in relation to annual leave entitlement


What We Are Looking For:

• 4 GCSEs or equivalent including Maths and English at Grade C or above  

• Level 3 qualification in Administration or other relevant subject  

• Achievement of, or working towards a CIPD Level 3 qualification (Desirable)

• Experience of working in a varied administrative role

• Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritise workload

• Excellent written communication skills and attention to detail

• Experience of working within an HR team (Desirable)

Nelson and Colne College, located in the town of Nelson, Lancashire, offers further education to 1,600 full-time students and 3,500 part-time adults. The college was founded during the reorganisation of education in Pendle in the early 1970s and created by the merger of several local sixth forms. 

Recent investments have included a £2m engineering facility, an all-weather sports pitch and gym, fully equipped science laboratories, and student study and social spaces. In January 2017, Nelson and Colne College launched a university centre to offer a range of higher education programmes in East Lancashire and beyond.
