Nelson and Colne College Group is a beacon for educational excellence, made up of a family of colleges – Nelson & Colne College, Lancashire Adult Learning & Accrington & Rossendale College. 

Together the Group forms a Sixth Form, Skills and Technology Centre, University Centre, employer training and adult learning provider delivering exceptional teaching and learning to all ages and at all levels. 

The Exciting Role 

The College Group is looking for a full-time, permanent HR Business Partner to join our dedicated HR team in delivering our People Strategy and providing a professional HR Service. From employee relations to recruitment and selection, the role is busy and varied and offers an amazing opportunity for candidates to take the next step in their HR career. 

The successful candidate will provide a forward thinking, operational advice service to managers and staff within dedicated Divisions/Departments across the College Group. Having excellent interpersonal and communication skills will be key to developing and maintaining excellent professional relationships with key staff, managers and senior leaders. 

This role will be based at our Accrington and Rossendale College site, however, travel across sites may be required.

What You Will Be Doing

• To be responsible for supporting the achievement of the principles outlined in the College’s People Strategy by providing a professional HR Service.

• To provide a forward thinking, operational consultancy and advisory service to managers and staff within identified divisions/departments across the College.

• To oversee a fair and effective recruitment process, advising managers in terms of the College’s processes and procedure and representing the HR Team on selection panels.

• To support managers and staff on employee relations issues including disciplinary, grievance, performance management, sickness absence and avoiding redundancy in line with College procedures, employment law and best practice.

• To develop and maintain effective working relationships with trade unions.

What We Are Looking For:

• CIPD Level 5 / Degree level qualification in a relevant subject 

• Experience of working in a busy HR environment, as part of a team

• Knowledge of effective people management practices and processes, with up to date employment law/professional knowledge

• Experience of providing advice and support to managers/senior leaders and ability to coach, persuade, influence and negotiate

• Experience in handling a range of employee relations issues including discipline, grievance, performance management and sickness absence

• Experience of handling end to end recruitment process

• Experience of working within Further Education, or a related sector (Desirable)

About Nelson and Colne College

Nelson and Colne College, located in the town of Nelson, Lancashire, offers further education to 1,600 full-time students and 3,500 part-time adults. The college was founded during the reorganisation of education in Pendle in the early 1970s and created by the merger of several local sixth forms. 

Recent investments have included a £2m engineering facility, an all-weather sports pitch and gym, fully equipped science laboratories, and student study and social spaces. In January 2017, Nelson and Colne College launched a university centre to offer a range of higher education programmes in East Lancashire and beyond.
