Job overview

To Support our aims and vision we are seeking an HR Business Partner to work alongside the Head of HR providing effective professional HR support. The successful candidate must be CIPD qualified or qualified by experience and willing to study for CIPD level 5 (minimum).

The core purpose of all posts at the Trust, including that of the HR Business Partner, is to advance education for public benefit. As such, all post-holders will support the organisation to ensure that young people are able to thrive and build positive futures.

The Trust HR professionals is to support and enable leaders across the Trust to:

  • deliver strategic and operational priorities effectively
  • develop and implement effective recruitment, retention and development strategies to maintain a high quality and continually improving teaching and learning environment
  • enable resolutions to people management challenges
  • introduce Trust-wide initiatives and service developments which will promote engagement and wellbeing across the workforce
  • offer training and support in HR matters to enable effective administration and to meet statutory obligations


The HR Business Partner will report to the Head of HR and will become part of the central team, supporting leaders at school level and those who are part of Core Group, including the CEO, COO and CEdO.

The successful candidate will be expected to: 

  • To work closely with the Head of HR to deliver effective professional support to colleagues across all areas of HRM, including:
  • Employment Law and policy implementation
  • Recruitment
  • Employee Engagement
  • Training and Development
  • To liaise closely with Trust leaders and provide early warning of up-coming issues and to provide appropriate advice as well as updates on HR and employment law; to set up and hold meetings with leaders to discuss current issues and plan appropriate HR support
  • Ensure a successful integration with the Trust HR services, including payroll, OH, DBS,  wellbeing and recruitment
  • To work closely with Head of HR and external professionals to provide advice, guidance, and practical support across the Trust on all people management and employment law issues including TUPE, organisational change, change management, casework management such as disciplinary, grievance, capability, and absence management. Support with complex case management ensuring compliance with Trust policies and procedures
  • To coach, support, train and challenge managers in the application of HR policies and practices, providing advice and guidance on HR issues in order to minimise risks and financial exposure and develop a positive, productive culture
  • To contribute to the management of organisational change (e.g., restructures, redundancies amd TUPE), providing advice and guidance to lead managers throughout the process
  • If required, to support the Head of HR with the implementation of a new systems and processes
  • To deliver briefings and training sessions to managers to cover policy implementation and changes as required
  • To contribute to the development of effective employee engagement communications, including briefings and updates
  • To liaise with other professional bodies where necessary, including trade unions and training providers
