We are seeking to recruit a proactive, efficient and emotionally intelligent HR professional to take responsibility for all aspects of HR, including recruitment, employee relations, staff absence, HR policies and procedures and the Single Central Record. 

This is a busy and dynamic stand-alone, generalist position, reporting directly to the Headteacher. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Manage all aspects of the School's Human Resources function across the employee lifecycle (including HR casework related to disciplinary, grievance, capability etc).

• All aspects of recruitment, selection and onboarding, ensuring that processes are consistent and reflect legal requirements, safer recruitment and best practice.

• All new starter administration, maintain the School’s Single Central Record (SCR) of pre-employment checks, employee files, records and databases.

• Completing the annual School Workforce Census on SIMS. 

• Record, monitor and report on staff absence and work proactively towards employee retention, engagement and wellbeing. This includes implementing the School’s Staff Attendance Policy, managing Occupational Health referrals, ensuring arrangements are made for any adjustments, supporting staff through these processes, managing the School’s Employee Assistance Programme, maternity / paternity / SPL administration, risk assessments).

• Write, develop and apply HR policies and procedures.

• Monthly payroll administration, maintenance of the online T&L management tool (Blue Sky), SLT minutes. 

• Oversee HR at our partner school, The St Marylebone CE Bridge School.

• Line-management of members of the support staff team.

• Founded in 1791, The St Marylebone CE School is an outstanding comprehensive school for girls with a mixed sixth form, serving students of all faiths or no faith. The School is a mainstream Academy for 1,170 pupils and around 200 staff. 

• Successively rated ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted and SIAMS, the School is one of the best performing non-selective state schools nationally.

• The School is situated in the heart of central London, just minutes from the hustle and bustle of Oxford Street on the tranquil Marylebone High Street, with Regent’s Park just moments away. We are close to excellent transport links (Regent’s Park, Baker Street and Bond Street Tube Stations). 

PERSON SPECIFICATION 

   Essential

• High level administration and organisational skills.

• Up-to-date general knowledge of the practical application of employment law, HR best practice and key KR policies and processes.

• Ability to support staff through HR processes, employing tact, diplomacy and emotional intelligence in difficult / sensitive situations.

• Ability to interpret and apply terms and conditions of service and contracts of employment.

• Ability to provide advice to employees and managers at all levels on HR operational matters (including disciplinary, grievance, capability and attendance). 

• Experience of recruitment and selection, knowledge of Keeping Children Safe in Education and safer recruitment. 

• A strong aptitude for IT; in particular, a confident user of spreadsheets, mail-merges and databases (HR systems). The School uses Gmail / Google Docs / Sheets / Drive. 

• Ability to work on own initiative. 

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

• A forward thinking, common sense approach to problem solving.

• Flexibility and willingness to support colleagues in all areas of school life.

• Resilient, with the ability to work calmly under pressure.

• Motivated to strive for continuous improvement and excellence.

• Ability to deal with sensitive information with the utmost discretion and to maintain confidentiality at all times.

Desirable

• A CIPD qualification.

• Safer recruitment training.

• Experience of working in HR in a secondary school or similar context.

• Experience of working with SIMS.

The St Marylebone CE School is an all-girls secondary with co-educational sixth form in Westminster, central London. It is affiliated with the Church of England and designated a National Teaching School. Since 2011, St Marylebone has had academy status.

The St Marylebone CE School welcomes applications from people of all backgrounds, races, cultures, faiths and genders.   The School actively promotes diversity and inclusion across its community and our students come from a wide range of backgrounds: 40% of our students speak English as an additional language; 59% of our students come from backgrounds other than white British.

The secondary school is located next to St Marylebone Parish Church and is a short walk from Regent’s Park. The sixth-form facilities are based in nearby Blandford Street. St Marylebone was founded in 1791 and it carries the motto "An opportunity to excel". There are currently around 1,100 students, 300 of whom are in the sixth form.
