Human Resources Manager

To work closely with the school’s Principal, Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and Nord Anglia Education HR colleagues to ensure that the HR function delivers an efficient and effective service across the whole school.

To oversee and be responsible for the full range of HR activities within the school.


Vision, Strategy and Projects 

  • Manage and deliver key elements of the d’Overbroeck’s people plan, including recruitment planning, induction, reward and bonus schemes, performance management, talent review, and other initiatives as required, in support of the NAE and school’s strategic aims and vision.
  • Work with the Principal and Finance Director to create an annual resourcing plan.
  • Monitor, control and track staffing costs in line with budget.
  • Provide high quality advice and guidance to internal and external customers in line with the school policies and legal stipulations to all HR related matters.
  • Liaise with SLT, line managers and employees and provide support on all HR fundamentals and employee related issues and escalate significant matters to the Principal.
  • Ensure the school is compliant with ISI legislation and KCSIE requirements, and NAE HR safeguarding imperatives are met, and that all individuals working at/visiting the school have the correct checks and the relevant training on time.
  • Support the Group HR team with any tasks or requests for information to ensure a coordinated approach across all NAE schools.
  • Share school best practice and contribute to project work.
  • Provide sensitive and timely communications regarding all HR issues.


HR Operations

  • To lead the team of HR Administrators and manage the delivery of all HR operations at d’Overbroeck’s, including:

- processing all HR administration

- managing recruitment campaigns

- progressing DBS checks

- administering all HR databases

- maintaining employees’ personal data in the HRIS and perform audits.

  •  To be responsible for the Single Central Register of checked employees and to manage refresher checks.
  • To oversee new staff induction, orientation and training.
  • To manage probation reports (please see more details in Candidate Brief).
  • To monitor sickness absences to ensure compliance with the Sickness Absence policy and Procedure and escalate to Principal or other colleagues as necessary.
  • To ensure all relevant documentation is received by the Payroll provider and processed on time (please see more details in Candidate Brief).
  • To support the delivery of induction, maternity and other similar briefing sessions for all employees including the completion of appropriate paperwork.
  • Prepare and update HR related documentation, including maintaining up-to-date internal policies, procedures and documentation and employee handbook in line with global and regional guidelines.
  • To ensure that all employee relations issues are properly identified, reported, and resolved.
  • To be responsible for improvement initiatives for HR processes.
  • To ensure that all staff are aware of and meet their statutory responsibilities and school policies with regard to Safeguarding, Equal Opportunities and other relevant legislation. To escalate any issues where staff may not have met these requirements.
  • To cover any other appropriate duties as allocated by the Principal.


General Administration

- To ensure the accuracy and confidentiality in the maintenance and provision of all activities, records and services and to deal with or respond to queries in a timely manner; to liaise with external bodies as appropriate; all activities to be undertaken in accordance with statutory, school and regional HR guidelines.

- To maintain manual personnel files and ensure that all HR filing is up to date on a weekly basis.

- To ensure high standards of HR service are maintained in good office housekeeping, dealing with customers both face to face and on the telephone in a professional and timely manner, referring issues to the Principal or other senior colleagues as appropriate.

- To support regional HR team members and undertake other activities of a similar nature as required.


Personal Specifications

  •  2 ‘A’ levels or equivalent.
  •  CIPD qualification (level 3-5) or equivalent.
  • Relevant HR and Payroll administration experience and skills.
  • Experience of using HRIS and Payroll software.
  • A general understanding of UK employment law and HR policies and principles.
  • Experience of managing/supervising a team.
  • Strong interpersonal and rapport building skills.
  • Experience gained providing support and advice to managers.
  •  Excellent numerical skills and attention to detail.
  •  Excellent organisational and prioritisation skills.
  •  Strong customer focus.
  •  Ability to use initiative and effective problem-solving skills.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Word and PowerPoint for producing reports and presentations.
  • Good cross-cultural, interpersonal and communication skills to interact with diverse nationalities and cultures.
  • Excellent analytical skills – with the passion and drive to demonstrate and quantify success.
  • Results orientated with the ability to consistently map efforts against identified KPIs.
  • Excellent time management skills and flexibility in dealing with multi-functional tasks.

Hours

This is a full-time position which will involve working 5 days a week. Normal office hours are 9.00am – 5.30pm, Monday to Friday.

About d'Overbroeck's

THE SCHOOL

d’Overbroeck’s is a co-educational independent day and boarding school in Oxford for students aged 11 – 18. The school roll currently stands at around 750, and this is set to grow in the coming years.

Founded in 1977, initially as a Sixth Form, d’Overbroeck’s has maintained its founding values throughout its growth.

d’Overbroeck’s consists of three sections:

Years 7-11 – 200 students; currently all day students although open to boarders from next year. Based at Leckford Place, OX2 6HX.

Sixth Form – 440 students; a mixture of day and boarding. Domestic and international. Based at a purpose-built site at 333 Banbury Road.

The International School – around 125 international students who are all boarders, across years 9-11.

All in all, this is a busy and happy educational environment in which staff and students enjoy positive relationships based on mutual respect and a shared sense of purpose. As our most recent ISI inspection report puts it:

In its key findings, our most recent inspection report (2021) found that our students are highly motivated with extremely positive attitudes to learning.
