Established over 1,400 years ago in the 6th century, The King’s School, Canterbury holds the distinction of being one of England and Europe’s oldest continuously operating schools. Originally affiliated with Canterbury Cathedral, the school still occupies buildings within a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Re-founded by King Henry VIII in 1541, it was officially named 'The King’s School'. The school received a new Royal Charter from King George VI and Queen Elizabeth in 1946.

In 1952, the famous ‘King’s Week’, a festival celebrating music and drama at the end of the summer term, began and has since become a cherished tradition. Evolving to meet modern educational demands, the school opened its International College in 2018 and launched its first stage of the Shenzhen campus in 2019.

The King’s School Canterbury is renowned for its distinguished reputation and outstanding academic results, consistently rated as ‘outstanding’ in independent inspections. Nearly 99% of its graduating class each year secure places at prestigious universities worldwide. The school prioritizes quality over quantity in its overseas branch schools, fostering close connections between Canterbury and its international campuses, as well as among the overseas schools themselves.

The Shenzhen campus, the school’s first overseas venture, maintains a special connection through shared staffing, training, resources, policies, summer programs, inspections, and future exchange opportunities.

Located against the picturesque backdrop of Da NanShan (Nanshan Mountain), our Pre-Prep campus offers expansive outdoor spaces and well-equipped classrooms. Facilities include an excellent library, art maker-space, mindfulness room, large music hall, and indoor play areas. Following the UK’s EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage) curriculum, our bilingual education approach ensures every class has two teachers—one international and one Chinese—alongside dedicated teaching assistants.

Our main campus, opened in Autumn 2022, is situated 4 kilometers from the Pre-Prep campus and caters specifically to the Prep School (Grades 1-7, UK Years 2-8) and Senior School (Grades 8-12, UK Years 9-13). State-of-the-art in every aspect, it features modern classrooms, specialist laboratories, open learning spaces, indoor and outdoor breakout areas, social hubs, sports facilities, and a vibrant boarding community.

Signature facilities include a library, health & well-being center, robotics lab, performance halls, theatre, recording studio, sports hall, swimming pool, martial arts room, and extensive outdoor sports and play facilities.

Our innovative pedagogy combines best practices from the UK and China, emphasizing academic rigor, breadth, and depth, alongside diverse co-curricular opportunities, all supported by exceptional pastoral care. Senior school students prepare for global university entrance through Cambridge IGCSEs and International A Levels.
