The International School of Siena is seeking to appoint a Primary Assistant Teacher to join us in August 2020. (Potentially more than 1 position) Full time or part time available.

Candidates should be well-qualified, committed to high standards, interested in using innovative approaches to learning and enthusiastic about promoting international understanding.

The International School of Siena is focused on facilitating a meaningful education which is based on high achievement and inquiry-based learning. 

The school consists of small classes, one class per grade. Our IB programmes provide each student with opportunities to explore, inquire and develop confidence as well as equipping them with the skills, knowledge, and understanding necessary for the 21st century. Our school is based in a new purpose built facility which includes a spacious indoor gymnasium, well designed classrooms, Drama studio, Libraries and science labs with on-going developments of the external facilities.

The Position:

We are seeking an enthusiastic professional with qualifications and experience working with children in the primary years. Candidates should be committed to high standards, interested in using innovative approaches to learning, and enthusiastic about promoting international understanding. A strong commitment to purposeful teaching to support students with additional needs, collaborative planning and open communication is essential to work with class teachers, Learning Support Coordinator and PYP Programme Coordinator.

Our classrooms are exciting centres of collaborative learning and this extends to the philosophy and vision of relations between teachers and families. We believe that collaboration with families is of particular importance and our teachers interact comfortably and confidently with parents as well as being imaginative and flexible classroom practitioners.

We expect high standards in teaching and learning with a special awareness to language acquisition and literacy since the majority of students do not have English as their mother tongue.

Applicants must be willing to be active, positive energy, flexible participants in a hard-working team of teachers.

The initial contract will be for the completion of this academic year after which there would be the possibility of converting the contract into a permanent position of employment.

Essential characteristics:

• To have had a minimum of two years assistant teaching experience with students of primary age;

• To hold a Teaching Assistant qualification and/or a degree level qualification.

• An understanding of the spectrum of barriers to learning that can impact on a student’s ability to access the curriculum.

• High level of IT, literacy and numeracy skills.

• A TEFL or CELTA qualification would be desired but not essential.

• The ability to differentiate tasks and provide instruction to facilitate student’s access to the curriculum and maximize learning.

• Proactive and can demonstrate initiative.

• A good sense of humor and a great deal of patience.

• Positive energy 

• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a wider team.

• Willingness to embrace the international minded ethos of our unique school.

• To be an EU passport holder or already be in possession of a valid visa that enables to work in Italy.
