Job overview

The International Boys’ Schools Coalition (IBSC) seeks a dynamic executive director committed to advocating for boys’ schools.

We search for a person passionate and knowledgeable about the education of boys. The director must advocate for boys’ schools around the world and for the importance of IBSC to those schools. The executive director creates and deepens relationships with the people who lead and teach in those schools, providing them extensive research and support for their work and for the communities where their schools exist.

The ideal candidate is not only an expert on boys’ learning but also an innovator in every aspect of the coalition’s work—program creation and delivery, online learning for boys and for adults, and the functioning of a successful association spanning many countries. This person should be a cultured traveler who will enjoy visiting current and prospective member schools to present the coalition’s multiple benefits and fellowship.

The executive director has multiple responsibilities. This person recruits new member schools enthusiastically. The director should feel comfortable working remotely and inspire a team approach for the staff of this virtual office. The director reports to a board of trustees chosen from member schools. Most of all, the director must speak and write passionately on behalf of the organization on the vitality of boys’ education. The job requires a person interested in learning more about every aspect of a boy’s education, keeping up with scholarly research, summarizing it for schools, and circulating IBSC’s values and impact in every outlet. The executive director plays a critical role in communicating, both internally and externally, the value and importance of boys’ education and reinforcing the role that member schools play in cultivating positive masculinity around the globe.

Thus, successful leadership includes key qualities of self-motivation and the motivation of others, a passion for advocacy, and the leadership ability to inspire staff, keep organized, work in close partnership with trustees, and oversee an effective program and budget.

Compensation for this role is appropriate to a worldwide association in education. Applications must include a resume and a cover letter less than 500 words explaining your qualifications for the work. The deadline for applications is December 20, 2021. The beginning date is negotiable, but it should be no later than January 1, 2023.

Strategic School Leadership is assisting IBSC in this search for the executive director. All applications will be held in the strictest of confidence. Interested persons should send their materials to IBSC at search@theibsc.org.
