Sultanate of Oman

ICT/Computing Teacher (HoD role may be available)

Start date: August 2019

Competitive packages

The ABQ Education Group is an Omani Education operator based in Muscat. It currently fully owns and operates three bilingual, all-through, co-educational international schools - the ABQ Bousher, ABQ Seeb and ABQ Sohar. Each school offers a dual UK/Omani curriculum and caters to both local families, seeking an international style of education for their children and ex-patriates.

All students follow the Cambridge Primary and Lower Secondary curricula. Having completed Secondary 1, students choose between an Omani bilingual programme and the Cambridge/Edexcel IGCSE curricula, followed by the Cambridge/Edexcel International AS and A Level curricula.

Due to our expansion and increasing number of students, a requirement currently exists in one of our schools for a UK trained or equivalent ICT/Computing Teacher. The teacher will be expected to teach ICT/Computing up to IGCSE and AS/A2 level. Applications are warmly welcomed from suitably qualified teachers with a student-centred learning approach to teaching. Our motto is “We Care”, and the successful applicant will be a dynamic teacher with experience of enabling pupils to achieve their potential. We are looking for the right balance between experience, enthusiasm and a passion for teaching that will inspire our pupils. The initial contract is for one year but can be renewed by mutual consent. Salaries are competitive and are paid net of tax. The employment package includes healthcare insurance and one return flight per year.

Fluency in English and familiarity with the Cambridge and Edexcel curricula are prerequisites. A strong desire to contribute to the rich extra-curricular life of the school is also an advantage. Please note that a teaching degree or post-graduate diploma (B.Ed, M.Ed, PGCE or equivalent) is required for this role, as well as minimum two years of relevant experience, as per MoE requirements. Unqualified teachers will not be considered. Experience of working in an Arabic/bilingual environment and tailoring lessons to meet local needs will be highly advantageous. In return for your energy, passion and creativity, we offer you the opportunity to join an organisation that is at the forefront of shaping and developing education in Oman.

Although not a requirement, we encourage you to attach a short video of up to 3 minutes where you tell us a about yourself and your educational philosophy. For an information pack and to discover more about this exciting opportunity, please contact our Chief Learning Officer, Sigve Austheim on +968 923 15 110 or email him at sigve@abq.edu.om. Please attach your CV and a recent photograph with your application. Closing date for applications: Thursday 28th February 2019.
