Job overview

We are looking for a thoughtful, passionate and energetic individual to be part of an exciting new school with a supportive staff and management team. Our school, set in the heart of the Algarve, is still new but already thriving and we want you to help us to continue to grow and develop.

What we offer:

With a maximum class size of 12 and a curriculum well balanced between academic and vocational subjects, our school opened in January of 2020.

We are located within what is known as the Golden Triangle of the Algarve with lots of access to the beach and the outdoors – with plenty of opportunities to take learning outside the classroom. We share a site with a tennis club and there is a pool and other fantastic sporting facilities on the doorstep. The school is proud to be a part of a wider community.

In key stages 1 to 3, teachers use the national curriculum as a framework to create inventive lessons that are engaging and often pupil-led. At all key stages we promote creative thinking in the classroom and prefer to move away from an overreliance on textbook learning.

We are also an inclusive school, welcoming pupils of all abilities. We have high teaching standards; our small class sizes mean we are able to support pupils who need it while still continuing to challenge our high-flyers.

We are accredited to offer GCSE and A level qualifications by Pearson Edexcel and you would be asked to teach across all key stages.

We are currently a BYOD school and support the use of ICT across the curriculum. We make use of Google classroom and are interested in working towards fuller ICT integration.

We have a diverse staff and student body, and we strive to create a nurturing and fun learning environment. We appreciate teachers who are willing to go the extra mile, offering extra-curricular activities and playing a full role in the wider life of the school.

• Competitive Salary

• Opportunities for CPD

• Great Location

• Small Class Sizes

You:

• You will possess a teaching degree or a postgraduate certificate in teaching.

• You should be prepared to teach ICT across the whole range of our students – from ages 5 to 18.

• You should have an excellent understanding of young people, and you will know that school should be fun, exciting and engaging in order to ignite a lifelong love of learning.

• Your lessons will be innovative, imaginative and varied, using a variety of methods and techniques to develop pupils’ learning.

• You will work in partnership with the parents to consistently welcome parent engagement and be able to provide regular feedback on their child’s learning.

• We would appreciate a willingness to provide additional cross-curricular ICT support and to help develop further ICT integration across all subjects.

• We would also appreciate a willingness to help with developing school systems for recording and reporting as well as providing help with the school’s online presence.

Please apply by sending your CV and cover letter to admin@algarveinternationalschool.com

About The Algarve International School

The Algarve International School was founded in 2019 and is flourishing as the Algarve's new home of education.

The four Co-directors operate as a team, working alongside all the teaching staff to create a harmonious learning environment, where all can progress.

AIS aims to work with parents, teachers and the local community to continue it's development towards becoming a great educational facility for children from three years to eighteen years old.

Our vision is to provide an outstanding education - focusing on the whole child - for all of the students in our care. We understand what matters and what makes a difference to learning. We will ensure that our staff, at all levels, promote a culture of encouragement, inclusion, ambition, inspiration, challenge, support and achievement.

The Algarve International School is an official Pearson Edexcel Centre following the British curriculum.

This academic year, 2020/21, the new AIS Primary school students (Years 1-6) have been and will continue to  be taught in both English and Portuguese. We ask that candidates applying for Primary posts at AIS are fluent in both languages. Our current Primary teachers are all bi-lingual and thrive under the instruction of our Primary Coordinator who has adapted the curriculum to incorporate both the Portuguese and English language.

Our Secondary division follows the British curriculum fully resulting in the iGCSE and A level examinations. Fluency in English is a prerequisite for any post in our Secondary division.

The Algarve International School takes pride in knowing that its unique selling point is simply the care that we provide. We show this care by appointing only the best teachers: men and women with both the qualifications and experience to allow our students to reach their full academic potential. But it's more than that.

We care.... about providing a balanced education, with equal emphasis given to sport and the creative arts as to more traditionally academic subjects.

We care.... about where we are located, providing a fully bilingual primary, with lessons taught in both English and Portuguese and a secondary school where Portuguese is given equal time on the timetable with English.

We care.... about providing a fully rounded extracurricular program, to allow all pupils a chance to try and then to develop their skills in a wide range of activities.

We care.... about providing an education that nurtures the whole child, using mindfulness and personal, social and health education to encourage responsible, ethical, respectful and confident young people.

We care.... about our students as individuals, which is why we will never have classes of more than 12 pupils, allowing time for positive and meaningful relationships to grow between teachers and students.

At AIS every pupil is cherished and encouraged to shine.
