About TCI Middle School

Striving for Excellence

TCI Middle School was opened in 2010 as the first true ‘Middle School’ in Providenciales, encompassing Years (grades) 7 to 9. It has since grown to now offer the full ‘High School’ age range (Years 7 – 11), offering an International curriculum based on an adapted British National Curriculum in Years 7 – 9 which leads onto the IGCSE course of study in Years 9 – 11. The school is registered with and approved by the Education Department. Since 2014 TCI Middle School has been a fully accredited Exam Centre for International GCSE awards through the Edexcel Examinations Board, enabling students to leave in Year 11 with internationally recognized qualifications.

The school is small by design with a maximum of 12 students per year group in order to facilitate the school’s stated aim of focusing on individualized learning. These numbers allow each student to receive individual attention; challenging and stretching the more able as well as supporting those who need it.

To facilitate this the school offers a calm, familial atmosphere, with highly qualified teachers, all with international experience, teaching their specialist subjects in well-equipped classrooms. An inquiry-based, hands-on and participative approach underpins much of the methodology at TCIMS and we regularly take students off-site to make good use of the range of facilities available on island.

The campus, which is centrally located on Leeward Highway below Richmond Hills, comprises of 8 rooms split between two buildings surrounding a central play area. Each classroom is attractively designed, self-contained and is laid out as a subject base with A/C and fans. This includes a well-equipped Science Lab for courses in Chemistry, Physics and Biology and a small Library for reference and study. Multimedia presenters are standard in every room and half of the classrooms have interactive whiteboards. All students are also assigned their own personal netbook/laptop which can be used in all lessons, as the whole school has Wi-fi coverage. This effectively facilitates the use of technology as a tool for learning, giving access to sophisticated research capabilities as well as developing skills in communication, presentation, collaboration and interaction that improve recording skills in most subjects.

The school runs a variety of after-school activities ranging from Art, Science, Homework Drama and Environment Clubs. Our outdoor spaces are continually developing to encourage greater environmental awareness as well as to engender our friendly atmosphere.

At TCI Middle School, students are very involved in community activities; encompassing community projects through links with governmental or local organization e.g. Department of the Environment and Maritime Affairs (DEMA) and the recent “International Coastal Clean up” and ‘Save the Reef’ initiatives. Students representing the school have been invited to attend DEMA board meetings as they are seen as a vital link to initiate environmental improvements in and for the community.

Students regularly participate in national inter school events such as Science Fairs, Debating competitions, History and Heritage Quiz, spelling bees and many sporting events including National Inter High Athletic Championships and tournaments for individual sports such as Tag rugby, Soccer, Sailing and Basketball. As well as representing their school, several students have gone on to represent TCI in Soccer, Swimming, Sailing and as part of TeamTCI in the Carifta Games.

Students are taught responsibility and through the School Council, have a say in the development of the school – including areas to be developed, resources to be bought and even in adapting their school uniform!
