Job overview

Due to the retirement of the current post holder, we are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic senior manager/specialist teacher to lead this diverse, highly regarded team of professionals. You will be the key Hackney lead in supporting and developing school SENCos’ individual and collective work.

The team, based centrally at Hackney Learning Trust, supports families, schools and other education settings to include and meet the needs of children and young people with a wide range of SEND.

The team is made up of several services: a Portage team, an Early Support and Area SENCo team, a team for children and young people with Visual Impairment, a team for children and young people who are Deaf or Partially Hearing, a team of Specialist Teachers, and an Autism Family Intervention service.

The service has a traded component where schools can buy specialist teaching advice and support.

As well as leading and managing these teams, the post holder will contribute strategically and operationally to the smooth running of the SEND department at Hackney Learning Trust.

We are looking for a highly motivated, energetic, optimistic and compassionate leader, with an understanding of the challenges and opportunities around including children and young people with SEND in a range of education settings, and supporting their optimum progress.

You will have direct experience of successful specialist teaching in a school or service. You will also be an experienced manager at a senior level.
