Job overview

Up to 20 days per annum

Lewisham is a vibrant and diverse inner-London borough. 90% of Lewisham schools are Good or Outstanding and many secondaries are currently benefiting from significant investment to improve outcomes for pupil.

Lewisham Learning is a schools-led partnership established by school leaders and the local authority in 2016 to deliver high quality school improvement services to all of Lewisham’s schools. The organisation is rooted in successful collaboration which has underpinned education in the borough for some time.
The new role of Independent Chair is three-fold. Firstly, to work with the Strategic Board to set vision, strategy and organisational objectives. Secondly, to support the Strategic Board in its working relationship with the local authority, acting as a bridge between the two. Finally, to bring fresh ideas and an external perspective, ensuring the right balance of support and challenge to the Strategic Board.

To be successful in this new role, you will have a strong track record of school improvement and experience of promoting children’s education through previous or current professional or voluntary activities. You may have experience as a Non-Executive in a similar organisation, or in senior Executive leadership role in an education environment, either fixed-term, permanent or in an advisory capacity; either way you must demonstrate knowledge and experience of education Board governance and chairing complex meetings at a senior level. Other essential personal qualities include a visible passion for education, the ability to perform an ambassadorial role and a desire to engage effectively with a range of stakeholders.

Learning Lewisham is keen to reflect the communities that we serve in the make-up of our leadership team.

For more information and details of how to apply please speak to Nick Cole (07736 491804) or Ben Manojlovic (07785 454971) at Veredus.

Closing date: 12 noon on 15th April
Interviews: w/c 22nd April
