Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons for the following position: 

Indigenous Education Worker Part- Time/ Temporary position 

24 Hours per week for the remainder of the 2018 school year 


DUTIES WILL INCLUDE: 

  • General teacher assistance, organisation and resource preparation 
  • Working with students
  • Assistance with playground duties 
  • Leading Cultural Group Experience with students 
  • Liaising with parents and local community organisations 
  • Coordination of Personalised Learning Plans for indigenous students 
  • Coordination of community events eg NAIDOC 


ESSENTIAL CRITERIA: 

  • Must be of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander decent (must provide proof) 
  • Must hold a current Working with Children Check clearance 


SELECTION CRITERIA:

  • An understanding of and commitment to Catholic ethos and values 
  • Ability to work in close consultation and be supportive of the school leadership team 
  • Ability to work as a member of the school staff 
  • Sound literacy and numeracy skills 
  • Ability to lead cultural groups 
  • Knowledge and appreciation of the ways students learn. 
  • Sound ICT competency 
  • Preparedness to work with small groups of children.
  • Proven track record of good working relations with school. Staff, parents and/ or previous  employers. 


The Indigenous Education Worker will also act as a role model for students by encouraging them to take pride in all aspects of their schooling.

St Joseph's Primary School is a co-educational Catholic school providing education to the West Kempsey community. The school caters to children from Kindergarten to Year 6.

All classrooms at St Joseph's are equipped with interactive technologies that support and enhance students' learning. Other facilities include a healthy canteen, well-stocked library, school hall, vast green play areas and undercover learning areas.

Curriculum

St Joseph's follows the recommended NSW Board of Studies curriculum guidelines with the implementation of traditional core disciplines. The Key Learning Areas are English, Mathematics,  Science and Technology, Religious Education, Human Society and its Environments, Creative Arts and Personal Development and Health and Physical Education. Drama, dance, chess, gardening, choir and band practice are also available. Additionally, students have the opportunity to get involved in various sporting events, these include the swimming carnival, cross country and the athletics carnival.
