About the role

Southern Cross Catholic College, Annandale is seeking an experienced and dedicated Instrumental Music Tutor - Vocal. This role is a Term Time, 1 Year Fixed Term position completing 12 hours a week over 2 days.  This position commences in Term 1, 2023 until the end of the 2023 teaching year. 

The primary purpose of the Music Tutor - Vocal is to provide vocal tutoring and enable students to achieve standards of performance on at a level commensurate with their skills.
It is expected that the Music Tutor - Vocal will be a passionate advocate of music education and the music program within the College community. Music tutors through their pedagogical practice, co-curricular and academic curricular involvement will uphold the strategic direction and vision of TCE and the College Leadership Team.

Key Accountabilities

The key accountabilities are as follows but not limited to, and may vary based on classroom and students' support needs.

Curriculum

  • Provide vocal tutoring, singing techniques, music theory and music appreciation with skill, care and diligence
  • Carry our tutoring duties as required by the Program Leader – Instrumental Music
  • Actively contribute to a positive learning culture for students engaged in the Music Program
  • Maintain records of development as they pertain to student progress, and share these records with the Program Leader – Instrumental Music and Culture 4-12.

Contribution to the Instrumental Music Program

  • Responsibility for maintaining accurate lesson attendance records, and reporting on student absenteeism
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with parents, teachers and students
  • Submitting reports at the end of each term
  • Prepare for Music Performances at the college in collaboration with other Music Program staff and the Program Leader
  • Promote the Music Program and its role within the college

Professional Development

  • Support collegiate learning by sharing learnings with colleagues
  • Proactively seek opportunities to extend own professional learning via internal and external training

Mandatory Criteria

  • Current Working with Children Suitability Card - The successful candidate will require a paid Blue Card before commencement as per the No Card, No Start policy developed by Queensland Government.
  • Degree in Music, Music Education or other relevant qualification
  • Current Driver’s Licence
  • Ability to travel from time to time within the Catholic Diocese of Townsville
  • Ability to perform the physical requirements of the role in a safe manner.

Desirable Criteria

  • Current First Aid certificate
  • Capacity to play a variety of musical instruments.
