You will need to be a dynamic, ambitious and energetic teacher who can motivate and inspire pupils across primary and secondary school age in our forward thinking Creative Arts Faculty. The successful candidate could teach drums, guitar and potentially voice in small group instrumental lessons developing small ‘bands’. There is also potential to lead ‘Band Jam’ rehearsals and groups in lunchtime or after school sessions as well as our extensive holiday programme.

As well as a good track record of excellent instrumental teaching, a commitment to high stands of learning and student progress, you will need initiative, independence and vision to build on current progress and projects. We are seeking an instrumental teacher who can promote the highest standards of performance whilst also fostering a love of the subject and helping to embed a strong culture of music across the school including supporting key performance dates during the year.

This is a one year contract from September 2019 in the first instance but has the potential to grow in future years. The timetable and the exact requirements of the role will be finalised when student numbers are confirmed, we are anticipating 4 hours between Penryn College and Penryn Primary Academy.

The Music department sits alongside Drama, Dance, Art, Textiles and Media in the Creative Arts Faculty, within the department there is a Head of Music, Head of Drama/Dance and Head of Arts all under the leadership of the Head of Creative Arts. There are currently four teachers of music and a large team of instrumental teachers working throughout the week.

The successful candidate will enjoy teaching Music in a supportive and well-resourced department and must be prepared to contribute fully to the life of a busy department. Since September 2017 the Music Department has been teaching Curriculum (KS1-KS2) and First Access Music across the Penryn Primary Partnership and since 2018 has been delivering instrumental provision at Penryn Primary Academy.

Penryn College is a co-educational secondary school for children aged 11-16 and primarily serves the population of Penryn town and the surrounding villages in Cornwall. The college was designated a Sports College in 1998; a Leading Edge school in 2004; and a high-performing specialist college in 2006. In July 2011, it became an Academy.

Penryn College’s original site was in Falmouth, where it opened in 1957. It moved to its present site in 1961 and has since benefitted from a programme of continuous development, culminating in 2008 in the opening of its £24m new College building.

The College was Cornwall's 'Building Schools for the Future' pathfinder, and raised an additional £1.4 million to provide community sports facilities.

A large range of activities run before school, during lunchtimes and after school. There is also a 'Schools on Saturday’ programme for students and members of the community to attend, with a host of sporting, creative and academic activities.
