Job overview

Required for September 2018   Internal Exclusion Leader

37 hours per week permanent, term time plus 2 weeks /NJC Scale 6 £23,866 - £25,463 (actual salary £21,145 - £22,951)

Governors are seeking to appoint an energetic and inspirational leader of Internal Exclusion to work with a small number of students who consistently do not meet expectations in school. We want to appoint someone who is committed to raising standards and who is passionate about all students being given the tools they need in order to meet the expectations  we have of them; for them to behave responsibly within our community and to engage effectively with their learning.

You will join a very well-resourced Pastoral Team who, along with all staff, are committed to raising standards of behaviour and attitude to learning even further in this “Good” school. Internal Exclusion is a serious sanction for students and is our final strategy before issuing a Fixed Term Exclusion. Students will  be placed in Internal Exclusion with one day’s notice and will normally work there for one or two days.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone to build on the great work done by the previous employee prior to their promotion and there is much that the successful applicant will be able to do in order to make their mark and make a real difference in the lives of young people to help them engage fully in school life. The role includes establishing firm routines, dealing with issues as they arise, helping students to reflect on how they could have handled a situation differently, sourcing work from class teachers for students and ensuring it is returned to the teacher, supervising students whilst they work and helping them to access the work where appropriate. Where relationships are strained, you will also facilitate restorative meetings or delegate this to the most appropriate member of staff.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a successful school with a vibrant, forward thinking philosophy and a positive and friendly atmosphere. We can offer an exciting opportunity to make a real impact in our school, working with students to ensure they understand the importance of reaching their own potential.

At Marple Hall School our overall aim is to become a first-rate comprehensive school in which all learners are able to reach their potential personally, socially and academically. We are an inclusive school and value the contribution made by students, staff, Governors, parents and members of the local community.

Our commitment to collaborative learning can be summed up with the phrase ‘Our Community -  Our Future’.Marple Hall is a thriving and successful 11-16 school providing a caring, nurturing environment for all of our learners.  I know that I speak for the Governors, Staff and students when I say that we are proud of the achievements of our school and that we welcome the opportunity to work with and learn from all of those who share our commitment to success.

Our school's focus on learning is the driving force behind all that we do and students experience a diverse and challenging curriculum, inside and outside the school, providing opportunities for them to continue to excel as members of our school and wider community. We make no apologies for having high expectations and demanding high standards of both students and staff, knowing that this will enable all our learners to succeed and benefit from the many opportunities we offer.

We aim to ensure that each student feels happy and challenged and engender a genuine appreciation of traditional standards of courtesy, respect for one another and our different beliefs, and the ambition to do well by working hard.

The Marple Hall Spirit
In 2016 Students, staff, governors and parents created a set of five qualities that we expect all members of our community to show on a daily basis. The five qualities are collectively known as the Marple Hall Spirit.
