Job overview

At Central Sussex College we are developing a new IT Academy to greatly improve the IT workforce provision within the local area. The IT academy will focus on blending professional certification such as Microsoft and Cisco, together with BTEC qualifications and also has a blended learning suite facility.
We are looking for an inspiring, innovative, dynamic and enthusiastic person to lead the development of the Academy working alongside the Programme Manager. You will be required to undertake teaching and related duties that fully support students throughout their learning journey and provide them with a high quality learning experience.  A significant collaboration with local employers is envisaged, especially within our apprenticeship schemes. 

We require someone with a good knowledge of the IT industry a solid background in programming and systems analysis.  Experience in the use of a recognised programming language such as C# or VB would be advantageous.  Applicants must have demonstrable knowledge of HTML.  Above all, we are looking for someone with a real passion for educating the future digital workforce.

As a lead of the Academy, the ideal candidate will work with the Programme Area Manager to actively contribute to the design and development of a forward thinking curriculum within the new Academy which will include BTEC level 2 and 3 in IT as well as preparing students and adult learners to achieve Microsoft Technology Associate exams Relevant Microsoft accreditation in Software Development and other industry relevant qualifications.. The ideal candidate should have up to date relevant industrial experience and will hold or be willing to work towards a recognised Teaching Qualification. Knowledge of BTEC would be an advantage.

History and Ethos

Crawley College is a mixed, non-selective, non-denominational further education college, based in the centre of Crawley. It offers a range of academic qualifications, vocational subjects and apprenticeships. The college caters for those who are leaving school and looking to study for a BTEC or A Levels, or those looking to retrain and gain new skills or take their studies further with professional qualification or higher level training at its Centre for Higher Education. 

On August 1 2017 Crawley College and Chichester College came together to form largest college group in Sussex.  This merger represents an exciting new challenge and will provide high quality learning opportunities for around 25,000 students each year.  The group covers four main sites – Chichester College, Crawley College, Brinsbury (a land-based campus offering courses including animal care, equine and agriculture among others) and Horsham Training Centre. It also has an extensive portfolio of successful commercial businesses, including First Steps Childcare, an examination boards, international education and sports and conferencing facilities.
