The English School invites applicants for the role of IT Systems Manager.  The successful candidate  will report to the Bursar and be responsible for the optimum performance of ICT facilities and continuity of service, both for administrative and curriculum use.

The successful candidate will have:

- Recognised IT qualification such as MSCE, A+, N+, MCSA

- Prior Google Workspace administration experience

- Willingness and adaptability in tackling the variety of tasks arising in a school environment

- The ability to be accurate and methodical

- The ability to work independently

- Problem solving skills

- Prior experience

- Exceptional English skills 

The job description includes but is not limited to:

IT Administration

- Evaluate user needs and system functionality and ensuring that ICT facilities meet these needs

- Plan, develop and implement school wide ICT projects; obtaining competitive prices from suppliers to ensure cost effectiveness of implemented technologies

- Schedule upgrades and secure backups of hardware and software systems

- Research and install new systems in line with school’s IT Development Plan

- Guarantee the smooth running of all ICT systems, including but not limited to anti-virus software, print services, VoIP, Wi-Fi and email platforms

- Secure data from internal and external attack

- Manage crisis situations, which may involve complex technical hardware or software problems

- Mentor and train new ICT support staff

- Keep up to date with the latest technologies

- Provide advice, suggestions and implement future proofing assurances of technologies introduced in the school

- Introduce, maintain and liaise with relevant staff members regarding school ICT related policy documentation

- Provide day to day maintenance of school-wide network ensuring optimal performance and availability

-Oversee development and maintenance of accurate inventory of all IT equipment

- Administer User Directory, email, school MIS and other related user groups and accounts ensuring appropriate access rights

- Oversee installation, configuration and maintenance all client software applications as necessary

- Monitor and protect against viruses, spam and malware across the school.

- Implement all applicable server, client and appliance software patches and critical fixes and OS version upgrades.

- Create, maintain and ensure the integrity and validity of data backups and methodology in use 

- Ensure internal and external system wide security (password protection, shares protection, system policies, profiles, firewall rules, monitoring software)

- Liaise with ISP, SaaS providers and other third party IT related suppliers to ensure optimal performance of Internet access and IT systems

- Maintain accurate record of all school software and SaaS licenses, including the IT asset registry and all projectors

- To be on hand / available or contactable during “holidays” in the event or a crisis situation and/or to complete essential tasks that cannot be performed during regular working hours.

- Mange departmental budget

- Develop, aid in the development of, and deliver staff training material.

IT Support

- Oversee the IT Support Ticketing system to ensure prompt repairs to all IT equipment

- Troubleshoot and supervise the trouble-shooting and repair of school servers, PC’s, peripherals, network equipment, etc.

- Schedule perform preventative maintenance on all IT hardware across the school

- Oversee the records of all equipment sent for repair

- Offering users appropriate support and advice

The position is full time from 1st August 2021 and the successful candidate will need to be available for handover before the end June.

The English School, which is a not for profit school in Kuwait, has served the English speaking community for 70 years.  As the oldest British school in the Middle East, we are a school based on Tradition, Excellence & Success.

Closely following the Foundation Stage and National Curriculum for England, pupils are taught by well qualified and experienced staff who recognise that all children are unique.

During our most recent ISI inspection in May 2022, the school met all expectations and standards.

As a member of IAPS (Independent Association of Prep Schools) the school is one of an elite group of academic institutions providing an education for pupils from 3 to 13 years of age. IAPS membership is a clear indicator that a school delivers a first-rate education comparable to the very best prep schools in the UK. There are 15 IAPS schools in the Middle East region currently meeting the stringent requirements of IAPS accreditation, and we are very proud that The English School does so. In addition, we are a member of the BSME (British Schools in the Middle East)  and COBIS (Council of British International Schools) allowing us to attend in-service training, conferences, share best practice, and participate in events.

About Kuwait

All members of staff would tell you that Kuwait is so much more than the common preconceived perception prevalent amongst those that have never visited.  Indeed, the vast majority of Kuwait’s 4.25 million inhabitants (1.5 million locals and almost 3 million expatriates) live in a city similar in size to Birmingham in the UK.  Many aspects of Kuwait are westernised and the preponderance of restaurants, cinemas and beach clubs would grace any top European destination.  The efficient, if extremely busy, network of motorways that criss-cross the metropolis makes it easy to get around.

As one of the richest countries in the world, Kuwait’s tax-free environment and geographical location provide an opportunity to save money, and act as an ideal stepping stone for travel around the Middle East and to the Far East.  There is a whole host of most impressive shopping outlets and malls around the city. Traditional souks specialising in gold, fabric and rugs, to name but a few, are invariably busy with eagle-eyed bargain hunters.  There are hundreds of restaurants to choose from and it is fair to say that eating out and shopping are national pastimes.  

Kuwait is an extremely safe city where most goods are readily available.  Summers are hot, but the ten week break gives everyone time to get away and catch up with family and friends, or time to travel further afield.  April and May, and October and November are perfect for all manner of outdoor activities including exploring the desert wildlife and environment.  December through to March can be cool in the evenings but often still reach the low 20s during the day – a far cry from UK!  With an excellent golf course, wonderful beach clubs and a thriving social scene, not forgetting a rich history and heritage, Kuwait is so much more than the uninitiated think.  The school has an excellent reputation and teachers have been known to stay for more than 20 years. No one place is for everyone, but Kuwait might just be right for you.
