Job overview

Overview

The IT department provides vital support to the educational provision of Dunottar School. It is a forward-thinking department which seeks to ensure the School fully utilises its technology and software capabilities, and that the learning experience of our pupils is enhanced by this provision.

You will be joining a small, friendly and supportive department who are committed to working collaboratively and innovatively. Being part of the United Learning group of schools, Dunottar School seeks to constantly improve and grow our IT provision by utilising our group vision and capabilities.

Working directly with the Network Manager and the Theatre & AV Manager, the IT Technician will provide first line support and will therefore play a key client facing role in the department. Although the roles are separate, the team works closely together, working from one office, with as much sharing of knowledge as possible and training on new technologies. Within the school, the IT department works closely with academic and support staff departments, with strategic direction provided currently by the Deputy Head (Operations).

Resources

The School has a number of presentation and meeting spaces including our current dining room/assembly hall, ball room, smaller meeting rooms together with our new larger whole school Theatre. The Theatre has state of the art AV equipment and the school hosts professional quality shows and performances.

The Network

The School utilises the Microsoft 365 platform. Most of our data is now stored in the Cloud. There are servers on the school site. Every classroom has a computer running Windows 10 and connected to a projector or screen. The school has dedicated computer suites as well as a Music Classroom with Apple iMacs. Every student is issued with an iPad to support their learning in the classroom as well as at home. There is provision in the classroom for students and staff to show what is on their iPad screen to the rest of the class on the large screen.  The wireless network has a good coverage to allow these to be used around the school site. The network also supports various other connected devices such as multifunction printers, 3D printer, laser cutter, CCTV cameras, VOIP phones, digital signage screens and visualisers. There are many different software packages used throughout the school. Most of the software is centrally deployed to devices.

The role

The key purpose of this role is to assist the Network Manager in the provision of IT Support during the School term. Additional hours may be needed during some school holidays to assist with major upgrades and projects.

Reporting Line

The IT Technician reports to the Network Manager.

Dunottar is a co-educational school for pupils aged 11-18 set in extensive grounds of 15 acres on the outskirts of Reigate. With a new Headmaster in September 2017, the school is on a very exciting journey.  The school is experiencing fast growth in pupil numbers and it recently announced a £6.6Million capital development programme to build a new Sixth Form Centre and a whole school Assembly Hall to accommodate future growth.

Dunottar is a great place to work, with a team of highly professional and committed teachers and support staff.  We incorporate best practice from independent schools and academies right across the United Learning Group, whilst retaining our unique, friendly ethos in Reigate where pupils are nurtured to make significant personal progress at the same time as achieving excellent academic results.  United Learning is an outstanding organisation which prides itself on providing a working and learning environment which encourages ‘the best in everyone’.  You will join a network of staff belonging to 60 other schools, with opportunities to engage with fellow professionals which far exceed what one school could achieve on its own.  Personal development and career opportunities are excellent.
