The group is currently home to a population of over 5,000 full-time students and around 500 students on higher education programmes. We have over 4,000 part-time or adult learners and 2,000 apprentices where we work with over 800 individual employers. Our Sixth Form provision has a reputation for high academic achievement and excellence.

The job coach is usually responsible for three young people, in either one larger organisation or working across several smaller businesses. Each intern has one placement over the academic year, tailored to the student’s skills and abilities.

The job coach has a vital role in a successful internship. Job coaches are primarily based at the employer’s premises and co-ordinate the Supported Internship programme. Job coaches are the daily contact for the interns while they are at work, responsible for their welfare and education.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work with the curriculum team in identifying students suitable for an internship by completing a skills profile, supporting the student in finding an appropriate work placement.
  • To assist with their social care needs, including acting as an escort for students with disabilities or learning difficulties whilst on their placement, and assisting with public transport or driving the student to and from their placement.
  • To act as the link between the business, interns, schools, colleges and parents.
  • Advising on social rules, dress and behaviour at work, helping the student understand and follow procedures, and offering emotional support and teaching independent life skills.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • has experience and/or a qualification in one or more of the following areas:
  • Learning Support
  • Nursery Nursing
  • Nursing
  • Working with students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities
  • Has a knowledge of manual handling regulations.
  • Is qualified to level 2 in literacy and numeracy.
  • Is able to provide assistance to learners that enables them to access facilities on the college campus and off campus, with a full UK driving license.
