We are seeking to recruit dynamic individuals for the newly created role of Job Coach, who will be responsible for ensuring that learners gain valuable experiences of the ‘world of work’. Through a supported internship. They will develop meaningful work placement experiences which are ultimately beneficial to each student that undertakes it, especially as part of a Study Programme.

Initially the posts will be allocated responsibility for supporting learners with high needs in supported internship placements at an employers premises.

Please note that all post holders will need to work flexible hours in various locations in order to meet the needs of individual students and able to travel easily within Sheffield area.

The Jobs Coach will seek to ensure that learners are able to access a variety of appropriate work experience to the individuals’ requirements as follows:

  • Work with curriculum staff, Tutor Mentors and employers to plan and tailor supported internship placement opportunities, based on the individual’s needs, prior attainment, progression plan and career aspirations.
  • Providing an appropriate level of support and guidance to the intern, their families/carers, employers and co-workers prior, during and subsequent placement. whilst in the work place
  • Advise the employer and co-workers on any reasonable adjustments to enable the intern to successfully carry out the job function competently and independently
  • Involves the student and employer in the planning, review and evaluation of the supported internship
  • Promote integration with other employees in the workplace
  • Monitor the performance of the interns and keep appropriate records
  • Deliver an appropriate qualification
  • Undertake the necessary administrative duties relating to the role of the coach
  • Accepting that these placements will assist in the promotion on behalf of the College and students, to prospective employers, the Job Coach will be expected to develop a good understanding of the wider college offer and seek to spot and develop other opportunities
  • Successful management of health and safety of supported internship work placements by ensuring close cooperation between all players, particularly between the College, work experience students and employers.

Jobs Coaches are required to:

  • Have high expectations for the employment potential of students
  • Have an understanding of the factors to be considered in supporting high needs young people into employment
  • Have an understanding of the needs of employers and the benefits to business of having supported internship placements
  • Effectively undertake and demonstrate a range of different tasks to the trainees/students
  • Have experience of working with high needs learner coaching/training or mentoring
