Job overview

Nature of the role: Full time, part time options are available. 12 Months fixed-term or permanent contract.  

 Responsible for: Providing technical training and teaching for Level 4-6 apprenticeships. Designing and delivering content and assignments in collaboration with other lecturers.  

Location and travel: the role is based at our site in Manchester with a requirement to be on-site for the majority of our face to face delivery weeks. Flexible/ remote working can be arranged by agreement at other times. Some travel to London may be required, for which travel and accommodation will be covered.

We are a specialist digital skills college training and developing diverse higher-level apprentices into fantastic roles in the tech sector and transforming their lives in the process. Our mission is to educate and empower the next generation of diverse digital talent.

We are at an exciting time in the development of Ada in the North West. Building on our success in London we took our first cohort of 7 apprentices in the region in 2021, and have enrolled 74 apprentices in Autumn 2022. We are now building our team in preparation for further growth over the coming year. We are looking to recruit someone inspired by Ada’s mission and energised by the chance to play a key role in scaling up our work and impact in the region. 

We are looking for a Junior Lecturer to provide classroom, small group and 1:1 teaching support, and to work with other lecturers to deliver our degree apprenticeship modules. 

You will play to your strengths to deliver technical content within our existing modules (remote and face to face delivery) while you build your knowledge in new areas, and provide classroom support more widely for our Data Analyst, Software Engineer, Cyber Security and Tech Consultant apprenticeships. 

You’ll join a small dedicated team in the region as well as being part of our national academic team, training apprentices with a wide range of employers such as PwC, Autotrader, HPE and Sykes Cottages. 

This is a unique opportunity to work with a growing number of employers and apprentices, and play a key role in establishing an exciting new educational institution in the region.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Work with lecturers to deliver engaging course material to apprentices and ensure their educational progress 
  • Work with lecturers to update and create new learning content for existing lectures and workshops, applying it to real world scenarios and drawing on industry expertise
  • Administer and mark assignments and exams 
  • Provide feedback to apprentices on their progress and provide additional support where necessary 
  • Work collaboratively with the wider team to ensure that individualised support programmes are in place for learners such as those with Special Educational Needs 

Other Responsibilities:

  • Get involved in the design and delivery of other Ada projects in Manchester as required
  • Represent Ada as needed with employers and young people as part of our business development and outreach activities
  • Engage with the wider Ada team to share best practice and contribute to a culture of collaboration and support

The Person

Essential:

  • Technical experience and knowledge in areas such as programming, databases, networks, software development or data analysis.
  • Experience training and developing others in an educational or workplace setting
  • Excellent communication skills and able to work effectively with people at all levels
  • Professional working ethos to effectively build business relationships with employers
  • An understanding of tech and the digital industry and an awareness of the skills required to succeed in tech-related roles

Desirable:

  • Experience working in a technical digital role in industry
  • Knowledge of either Python, Javascript or Java
  • Experience of academic assessment

  • Organised and have strong time management skills

The digital industry is experiencing epic growth but there is a talent shortage. Over 130,000 tech jobs are available each year in the UK but students are leaving education without sufficient knowledge and experience to get the job. We want to change this.

Location & Provision:

As of May 2021, we have 145 16-19 students enrolled, these students study the academically stretching BTEC in Computer Science along with a range of complimentary A-Levels.

Our Higher and Degree Level Apprenticeships in Digital Innovation (aligned to the Software Developer Standard) and Data Analytics and Visualisation (aligned to the Data Analyst Standard) have almost 200 apprentices enrolled from a range of organisations.

Our curriculum is academically stretching but practically rigorous and truly embedded with industry. Students are provided with a one on one coach from industry and employers help design and deliver our curriculum and careers advice. The positive impact to students and employers is demonstrable.

We are incredibly proud of what we have achieved in just four years, we have had some fantastic successes and plans for more to come.
