Our Pre-School for 2½ to 4-year-olds, the Infants and Junior departments for children aged 4 to 11 and a Senior School for students aged 11 to 18, are all dedicated to helping children thrive and to reach their potential.

The school seeks to appoint a well-qualified teacher to join our Junior Department as a full-time Assistant Head (Academic) and Form Teacher from September 2021 or January 2022. Applications are welcomed from well qualified, ambitious and forward thinking candidates.

The Assistant Head (Academic) is responsible for the quality of learning, teaching and pupil progress throughout the Junior School.

The Assistant Head (Academic) will provide insight, leadership and support for our team of subject leaders and will oversee the successful delivery of the curriculum, providing evidence that shows high levels of progress, attainment, achievement and value added. You will join an effective and professional Junior School Senior Leadership Team and play a key role in the School’s strategic planning and development.

The Portsmouth Grammar Junior School values the highest level of professionalism in its senior leaders. It is expected that all leaders will display a high level of knowledge and understanding of their aspect and communicate this enthusiastically. They should have high expectations of their colleagues and the pupils being taught.

The Assistant Head (Academic) will also lead by example being responsible for a Form and the successful candidate will play a part in the House system and in supporting our extensive co-curricular programme.

ISI Report 2022

During an ISI Inspection in late 2022 both the achievement of the pupils, including their academic development and the personal development of the pupils were found to be excellent - the highest possible classification. The Inspection also looked at the School’s compliance with the regulatory standards and requirements. PGS met all the standards required.
