Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role developing inspiring pastoral care and ensuring operational excellence across South Hampstead Junior School.

The Assistant Head (Pastoral & Operations) will work closely with the Head of Junior School to generate and deliver the pastoral vision and direction of the school, promoting pupil wellbeing and personal development to ensure excellent outcomes, as well as leading the operational and logistical running of the school.

They will also assist the Head of Junior School with policy and strategy development and will provide key input with the pastoral, wellbeing and operations aspects of the Junior School development plan.

The Assistant Head (Pastoral & Operations) will need to lead by example, line managing teaching staff and will have a 50% teaching load. Therefore, they will require a proven track record of excellent classroom practice, including proactive and effective pastoral care, with the initiative and imagination to inspire others and work effectively as a member of a leadership team.

Excellent knowledge and understanding of the latest developments in pedagogy, educational policy and best practice are essential, as is a clear understanding of recent developments in pastoral care, personal development and wellbeing.

South Hampstead High School is an all-girls, non-denominational independent all-through school in the London Borough of Camden, serving students from the age of 4-18. The all-through school has approximately 913 students on record.
